I've never understood the complaint that kelly/yellow is "too bright." The shade the A's have used for throwbacks is fantastic and contrasts well with the yellow (even on gray backgrounds). The dark green looks good and all, but the kelly is even better. Of course, I'm a little torn. I love the way the dark green and athletic gold (PMS 1235 C, to be clear) contrast with each other. Besides, they've worn dark green for a bit over 35 years. That's a lot of brand equity behind that color scheme. This is the one case where a Brewers-like situation would be good. Have the kelly green or dark green be a full-time alternate. It would be even better than the Brewers' current identity confusion, given the continuity of the Old English A. The kelly green really looks awesome at day games...but will it look that good at night? It might be an odd concern to have, but it's my only real concern so far with this potential switch to kelly.

I think their color scheme looks really good right now. I'm with you. I wish people would stop wanting to mess with one of my favorite uniforms in sports. Leave it as is and focus your attention on teams that actually need changing.

At night, the colors darken under the floodlights. Hunter becomes too dark, and Kelly starts to look more like hunter. That would be a fabulous upgrade for the A's.

the admiral 29,133 Posted September 21, 2017 Can we find a shade darker than kelly but lighter than hunter? I wouldn't say split the difference right down the middle but it has to be brighter than it is now.

Only if they actually wear vests like they did in Clemente's day, not sleeveless jerseys, which reek of the early-2000s.

Typical Friars move. Unpopular opinion, but I loved the jerseys they were in when they opened Petco Park, including the sand road jerseys. Still don’t like that bow tie San Diego logo though. Last year's jerseys were nice as well. Hopefully they get it together.
GriffinM6 1,465 Posted September 21, 2017 The only vest jersey I want for the Pirates to return are these. The current home and road look fine. The current alternate needs to lose all white.

Vests have narrower shoulders and are a specific style (see the A's jerseys at the top of this page); sleeveless are regular jerseys with the sleeves not stitched on.
Jungle Jim 888 Posted September 22, 2017 I wish to never see vests or sleeveless jerseys on a baseball field again. If we're sharing wish lists, mine would be that the Reds eliminate the black altogether and go back to a basic number and letter font.
the admiral 29,133 Posted September 22, 2017 I agree with you. Vests and white-paneled hats should never be in the majors. I don't know why I decided this but I did.

I do feel like that cap works really well for the A's with their road grays. But part of that is because that cap, like Oakland's road jerseys, is vastly inferior to their standard offering. It is hard to compete with one of the best caps in all of baseball though.

I, for one, am disappointed that vests are no longer in pro baseball. Some of them looked really sharp. White front panel caps don't bother me too much. Actually, my ideal angels set would be their old home vests paired with a white paneled cap. Or, even less popular if an opinion, with a full on WHITE cap. This is would be such a simple solution to the Angels problems of logo repetitiveness and kinda looking too much like the Cardinals.

A white hat wouldn't be needed if they wore this full time. Different enough from the Cardinals.

I see a team with vests/sleeveless jerseys, and I start looking for the parents to bring the players their Capri Sun drinks when the game is over. Reeks of youth baseball.

Lol they're such morons. Even when they flat out say they're gonna stick to something they can't do it. Unbelievable what a mess that organization is.

Vest versus sleeveless jersey: While the vest looks better on the A's and on the Pirates, I really like the sleeveless jersey for the Angels. I don't think it would look good as a true vest.
