MLB changes 2018?

Recommended Posts

The old Tigers cap looked so much better. To be honest, that new cap looks like it has an oversized "D" on it, a la the Marlins' (old) oversized "M" logo. I don't know if that's my eyes playing tricks on me, seeing the two side-by-side, or if the new "D" is honestly bigger than the average ML cap logo.

If Under Armour ever even thinks about 'standardizing' the interlocking NYs on the Yankees' cap and jersey, I will go down to Baltimore and personally destroy every single one of those jerseys Chris Sale style. Each one works best in its own respective format, and I think the same was true of the Tigers' logos (to a lesser degree).

Granted, the Yankees' logos are less 'mismatched' than the Tigers' old D logos - the chest "NY" is really a bolded version of the cap "NY" (with some slight differences in the serifs, but that's the general idea). But still, there is too much history and tradition wrapped up in the Yankees' and Tigers' logos to needlessly throw them away in the name of standardization.

The old D was way too small. I never noticed it until once at Lids. It was one of those "cannot un-see" moments. It looked almost half the size of the other logos, like it does in the comparison photo. I'm sure together with the rest of the MLB caps it'll look normal.

I thought the same thing.  I was looking at the old "D" caps and comparing them to the logos on nearly all the MLB caps (only the Cubs "c" seems small now).  I wore the hat all weekend.  I got positive responses from all that saw it "live" instead of in a picture.  It looks better than I thought it would.

Picked up the new Tigers (low crown 5950) road cap. Side by side with the out-going “D”. The new one is definitely bigger.  I never realized how much smaller the old one was in comparison with the other team’s hat logos.

Anyone else look at these and find that it's not just a matter of resizing but an actual different logo?  I mean, it's minor differences, but it looks quite clearly to me that the stroke shapes are not the same.  Looks like the top of the new cap logo sticks out a lot less and the bottom sticks out a lot more.  And the distance between the two vertical strokes on the left is much more.  It's almost like this is actually a combination of the two logos rather than a promotion of one.

Yeah the only thing that made it bearable was how far those two horns at the top and bottom stuck out and made up the difference, but the rest of the D was just way too small.

this REALLY bothers me.  There was no need to make the logo that big. Yes, I realize our logo was smaller than most others but the effect of the two points coming off the D really gave the appearance of the logo filling out the hat.  Now it just looks almost comically large.  It looks like some little league level knockoff cap.

Ask yourself, would Magnum P.I. wear the hat on the right?

You're goddamn right he wouldnt.

I think he would. I don't think he'd be fussy about a slightly larger D than the one in that GIF.

Honestly, the hat on the right looks gorgeous and I can't understand people not getting excited for that beauty to premiere on the field. DEATH TO TINY CAP LOGOS!

Because this is what the league needs!

Popping in to confirm the Marlins cap logo is smaller.

Not sure I like it but it may just be a case of not being used to it. It doesn't look bad but I for one never minded the larger logo. For now, just seeing it smaller it looks like a manufacturing error more than anything else lol.

I once had a friend buy me a cap of my team with a purposely oversized logo as a birthday gift. Straight up told him nope, I will not wear that.

Wow.  There are several bad uniform choices, all in one picture.  Even setting aside the white Converse shoes, obviously intended to be cropped out of the photo.

The big cap logo, the wrong D on the jersey.  Yikes.

The smaller hat logo is better, and I don't need to pretend to be a Magnum PI whisperer to say that.

And yeah, the previous jersey logo is better.

This really looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff bought by a beer league team that's trying to ape the pros.

That looks beautiful. And while the previous D looked good on the jersey, the new one looks good too!

Except the Yankees current cap has an NY that seems closer in size to the new D than the old baby D. And it looks perfect.

Yeah come on the new Tigers D isn't oversized... it's now normal sized. It was too small before. It's not suddenly bigger than every other cap logo.

The Tigers look head and shoulders better than they did before. I wasn’t so sure about the hat logo change, but it’s barely noticeable TBH. The jersey change was LONG overdue, though. I think people are just upset because it’s different. As has been stated before, within a decade we’ll look back and wonder why it took them so long to make that change in the first place.
