rams80
Also, LOL Girardi went from "you're TURBOFIRED you moron" to the ALCS in about a week. Awesome. FiddySicks
WELP, that sure was disappointing for the Cleveland Indians. And here I was, totally convinced, that we were gonna get an Indians Cubs repeat in the World Series. That would've made a repeat championship series for the THIRD time this year (NCAAFB: Alabama vs Clemson, NBA: Cleveland Cavs vs Golden State Warriors). I was pretty sure that the Indians would put the Yankees away early in this series, but this game really gave me flash backs to the "Moneyball" era Oakland Athletics. They would ALWAYS have a great regular season, start strong in the ALDS, and then absolutely collapse in the final few games. I heard a stat the other day that in this century the A's are 1-12 in playoff series clinching games, including 0-5 in game 5 at home. How does that even happen? The 2002 A's broke the single season record for 20 straight wins in the regular season, finished the year with 103 wins, and were unceremoniously bounced by the Twins in the first round in 5 games. This Indians team broke that record by winning 22 straight, ended the season with 102 wins, and collapsed in 5 games to the Yankees. The second straight year they've lost an elimination game at home in the playoffs. Ouch. This is also Cleveland’s 7th consecutive loss in a series clinching game. That leaves them tied for the worst stretch in playoff clinching games in baseball history. They’re now tied for that mark of futility with, yup, you guessed it. The Oakland Athletics. It just goes to show, no matter how good you are in the regular season, playoff baseball is often times a fickle, fickle bitch. Quillz
I'm not a fan of either team, but I was happy the Yanks won. Only because they were truly the underdog this time, and what they were able to pull off was very impressive. Plus, with all the talk about how hot Cleveland was, the 22-game win streak, how they hadn't lost three in a row since August, I guess part of me wanted to see them lose, just for the irony. As someone else mentioned, this was truly Moneyball 2.0. All the impressive things you accomplished during the regular season get forgotten if you don't win in the playoffs. Really pulling for Houston to win the AL. Not only were they probably the best team in the AL long-term, but I just think Houston could really stand to see something positive right now. OnWis97
Guy I hate that I shouldn't: Brett Gardner. Based on his games vs. the Twins, I knew how that 12-pitch at bat would end. Sport
I had a personal stake in the Indians winning it all so, Cleveland, your loss is my fault as any team I root for is incapable of advancing past a first round. Sorry. I can't feel too bad though. Cleveland really went all in on the "Don't let [pop culture event] distract you from the fact that the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead" meme and since then they've blown their own 3-1 lead and a 2-0 lead (and I don't know why, but everyone seems to forget about their best chance ever, the 2007 ALCS. Would've crushed the Rockies.) Go Astros

The Rockies wouldn't have cooled off too much, given that they would've waited less than a week (that nine-day gap between the NLCS and the World Series did them in). Cleveland probably would have won, but it would've been closer than the matchup we got. FinsUp1214
My mind says Houston in 5, but my gut says that the Yanks aren’t done playing Houdini yet. Didi or Gardner will smack some timely homer after fouling off 40 pitches that will turn the tide somewhere down the line.

This makes the Yankees sound like a fluke and not at all like a team that finished with the second best run difference in the American League. Much like with Cleveland, they will be underdogs and they should be, but write them off at your own risk. There's more quality on their roster than you would've thought entering the season. FGM13
Don’t be so surprised. The Yankees are built for this. No one is going to beat them when any three of Severino, Green, Kahnle, Robertson, Betances and Chapman are on. I’m not implying they have no business being this far, just that I feel like they’re riding some magic here (which isn’t meant to be a knock or a bad thing). I just didn’t think they were better than Cleveland (still don’t, all told) and I don’t think they’re better than Houston. They very well could win the pennant anyways.
