It's a real shame - I've been hoping that Sacramento could get it together.  And maybe they still will = they have another eight months to find that additional investor.

I meant to touch on this earlier but forgot, but ehh, I think it’s probably a bit worse than that, unless I’m reading the room totally wrong. The questions lately have gone from “hey are we gonna have enough assets to push for finishing the upper awning on the stadium a year early?” to more of “So, um, hey... Are we going to even be able to stretch the budget far enough to afford more ticket paper?” And it’s not the first time I’ve seen this kinda stuff. This just feels much much worse.

Never thought I'd see the day where Mott Haven was getting redeveloped. which is good to see.  About the lack of parking, for the most part, people in the city tend to walk or take public transit because outside of areas where you can have a driveway to park the car, the cost of parking and learning all about alternate side rules make having a car cost prohibitive.

Was Randall's Island ever a consideration for NYCFC in the stadium site search?

I don’t know but I highly doubt it.  Randall’s Island is even farther away from the nearest subway - a half-hour walk, easily.  And depending where on the island, possibly much more.

I think they'd have the same issues MLS had with their first option in Austin since there are Little League fields on one side and not much space on the other. It could be workable but they'd have less land to use for parking.

For some reason, I forgot that the main footbridge was on the south side of the island and that walking across the Triboro was not the easiest thing to do.  Only ever went there for office softball games.

I'm sure if they had wanted to build there, they could have worked something out to make up for the loss of the fields.  In giving it more thought I like the idea of development in Mott Haven better.

After a rough opening, LAFC take advantage of a man-down Montreal. Finish the season-opening road trip at a fantastic 4-2.

And finally, next Sunday, the Los Angeles Football Club will play the first-ever MLS home game in Los Angeles.

It's essentially TFC 2 playing but :censored:, down by 2 in less than 10 mins. This sucks.

Are NYCFC looking at going to a soccer specific stadium?

Watching it from more than 20 feet away isn't a real good atmosphere.

NYCFC will build a soccer-specific stadium.   And yet, most of the seats will he more than 20 feet away from the pitch.  ?

Question. Does anybody know if any of the current soccer specific stadiums in MLS are expandable?

I suspect most of the newer ones were built with expansion in mind. I know Sporting KC's park was said to be expandable. They even said at one point that if the waiting list for season tickets got to a certain point (I wanna say 10k, and it was at 5k at the time) they'd start talking expansion of the stadium.

Do you mean built specifically to be expanded or capable of being expanded? Columbus could be expanded if they took the stage out but I don't see that happening, especially if they move or a downtown stadium is approved. I think BBVA would have the biggest issues with expanding due to the way the exterior was built. Portland is capable of it but running out of space on two sides.

I guess either.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there's any room to expand Audi Field (DC United's new stadium) down the line. It's kinda built in a tight little nook of the city. Unless they get creative with it or something.

Toronto is still capable of expanding bigger. And it was designed that way. I think 40k is the limit before it just becomes a 'renovation' to squeeze more in.

Stadiums such as Chicago, Colorado, FC Dallas, they aren't really. They're mostly 'bowls' and the concourse setup just doesn't really allow it. I'd say Rio Tinto has similar issues from the one time I was there

With the major roof designs you see in Orlando, I'm not sure how much bigger you can make it as-is without renovating it in some manner. Same with Portland. It can be made a bit bigger, but it wasn't ever really designed with expansion in mind.

What a lucky, flukey goal, but I’ll take it!

LAFC was by far the better team in the last 30 minutes after a first half in which I thought Seattle was better.

Let’s go. 15 points through our first 7 games. I know it’s early, but we’re showing that we’re a team to be taken seriously this season.

One last thought: Dempsey looks hella old. Sad to see, especially to one of the all-time great American players.

LAFC owns the Sounders.

Good for them to have that goal at stoppage time to open the stadium. Fun win for my backup team. Too bad it came at the expense of my favorite team.

Sounded like an exciting second half.

On this coast, NYCFC defeated Dallas, which had been the only undefeated club remaining.  Top of the league, though Atlanta has a game in hand.

And David Villa scored his 400th goal, and then promptly scored his 401st.  We are so damned lucky to have him play in our league. In our city.  In our colors.

Great weekend for FC Cincinnati. A 3-0 win at Ottawa yesterday, and Kenny Walkers goal from midfield was number 1 on SportsCenters Top 10.

Jeff Berding and Carl Lindner III were at the LAFC game tonight (likely taking notes for their new stadium) as guests of the Don Garber. They supposedly have a meeting tomorrow morning.
