-kj
It's still, more or less, a series of pre-season friendlies. You may see some of the top players, but you're not going to see a true first-eleven lineup for any of the teams. As to if it's worth going, it probably depends on the ticket price. DG_ThenNowForever
I went to an ICC game with Club America vs Manchester United. It was fun for fans of those teams to see their heroes, but the game kind of sucked and it was too expensive for what it was. I'd pass if I were you. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

So they get to enjoy the fun of seeing a team move up, but don’t care if they get slapped back down immediately. I paid $80 for two tickets for United vs City in Houston. Then a veterans ticket site had even further discounted tickets so I got 4. If you pay more than $50/ticket it's too much. Especially in a World Cup year when most stars that are involved won't travel until the end of the preseason.

I’m guessing @mr.negative15 Was talking about a closed two tier system, in which for example a USL team couldn’t get promoted to MLS 2, so it would still be impossible for Oak Hill City to rise from the local league to the top. Ligue 1/2 is just the fully professional tiers being within the same umbrella organization (LFP), but teams from the Championnat National still get promoted, same as La Liga and La Liga 1 2

What I meant (and @anythinglogos explained much better than I did) was if MLS developed a closed 2 tier system a lot of people would have the opinion of "it's not real pro/rel" because a USL team couldn't get promoted into the MLS system. I don't agree with that opinion, I just feel that would be the sentiment of the people who want to see pro/rel so badly. Gothamite
Indeed. Given the calendar, leaving halfway through was the only choice open to him. MJWalker45
So one of Austin's first thoughts for PSV is that they agree to not move should they be approved to go to Austin. Granted the penalty would be reimbursing the city for their costs in building the stadium and following demolition that would occur. No decisions made today, probably will be made June 28th at the earliest.

FiddySicks
Sigh. Why is this type of talk even still a thing? Have y’all actually seen the state of some of these lower clubs? I work for one of the most successful tier II teams left, and I can tell you that there is absolutely ZERO chance they could handle the move up at this point. And the whole purpose for our existence is to move up to MLS. Asking for pro/rel in the states at this point is like asking someone to build a huge mansion on the side of a hill when the foundation is made of old, wet cardboard. It’s impossible. The United States has a slim to none chance of moving to pro/rel because soccer simply isn’t popular enough here yet. If it ever does happen, it’s going to take literally DECADES more of building up the sport to even consider it. And I don’t see that really ever happening because, as Stugotz has said (he actually had a good point with this one), soccer has been talked about as the “future” of American sports since, like, the 1970s. It’s had great growth lately in the top levels, but there is still a metric ton of work left to do at basically every single other level. Also, I think the talk of how popular the youth game is in this county is still extremely overrated. It’s solid at the youngest levels, but it takes a pretty fatal hit and kinda drops off of a cliff once kids start reaching their teens. Gothamite
Absolutely. We need decades of additional infrastructure building before we can even consider it. Hell, dropping down to AAA would cause some baseball franchises to fold, much less a developing sport like soccer. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. Hi, municipal leader, we want you to shell out millions of dollars to build a soccer specific stadium for a top level soccer team. Sport
There's so many more reasons beyond "get around some egos" that keep it from being a realistic system for this part of the world. Can someone explain why pro/rel is better than the current system? What does it achieve for the sport that the current system doesn't?

I think if MLS were to do that they'd have to scrap their salary cap rules to allow for the bigger names to come over in their prime. Otherwise they'll be even further behind the other soccer leagues, let alone dealing with NCAA and the NFL.
