Los Angeles Kings did it.  Though it was not one of their best uniforms in their history.

The Kings also did the reverse with their purple thirds from that time.

It didn’t quite have the same effect. Created more of a Cooperall look.

Agreed, it is basically the same thing we complain about with the yoga pants look in football. Black socks shouldn’t be worn with black breezers, especially when they don’t have stripes.

The Bruins switching to black socks would be like if the Dodgers replaced the red numbers on the front of their jerseys with blue numbers.

Would the blue numbers look bad? No. Would it even match a bit better than the red numbers? Yeah. Would it be an improvement? Hell no.

Red numbers for the Dodgers, like gold socks for the Bruins, are one of those quirks you don’t see much of anymore. The kind of stuff that can make a legacy franchise’s look really special.

The Bruins don’t look bad with black socks but they pissed away an underrated part of their classic identity just so they could look ok.

There is another classic quirk about the Bruins that I miss.  The white stripe on the sides of the pants.

Not all quirks are good quirks. I love the gold socks (especially with gold yokes) but can do without the stripes on the breezers.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Just make the stripe black, thick white, black then it would be perfect, it would be basically a blown up version of the jersey stripes

Yeah, exactly that.  I wish I knew how to upload photos.

But my hope is that they are saving those socks to re-introduce the Neely-era black jersey for their 3rd's next season, complete with era appropriate yellow socks.

I just wanna see more color vs color matchups in general. Whites should only be worn when necessary.

Please god, no. Once in a blue moon is fine, but not regularly.

Color vs. color is a pain for media, the stat crew, and referees (who already need all the help they can get). It strains the eyes to watch color vs. color, especially in a sport where the two teams are in cramped quarters always fighting for the same space.

The novelty would wear off very quickly.

Not to mention how much extra work it would be for the equipment crew to lug around an extra set of uniforms that might be worn 1 game on a 4/5 road trip.  Doesn't make sense.  And really, once the game starts, how much does what the teams wear really matter any ways?  How many people are watching games for the uniforms?

The other thing I hate about the Bruins switching to black socks is that in order to match their jerseys stripes they have to use socks very similar to the Penguins.

It's like when the Senators and Devils for a period of time wore identical socks. Two black and yellow teams in the league, an infinite number of ways they could stripe a sock and they both wear basically the same socks. Ideally, the Bruins would go back to using yellow socks because that's what the good lord intended, and the Penguins would switch to a stripe that matches something on their jersey because those stripes match nothing on their jersey. But to be fair to them they did have them before the Bruins.
