JH42XCC
Surprised that the XFL didn't go to Louisville, Norfolk, Columbus, Oklahoma City, or Sacramento. Maybe they could still expand to those markets should the XFL have a 2nd season and beyond... or both the XFL and AAF merge.

He wanted to go major cities and he got that.

JH42XCC
Interesting to see Tampa Bay as one of the 8 XFL markets. Could we be seeing the return of "Bandit Ball?"

Unless recently sold to McMahon, the A11FL guys still own the trademark to Tampa Bay Bandits. If they play at Raymond James, that's just more free money for the Glazers. They keep all suite and ad revenue. EDIT: USF now pays $180K/game for the lower bowl and use of bowl club lounges. The A11FL deposit back in 2014 was $50K for a $100K rent for a "Showcase Game", which never occurred.

monkeypower
Well the CFL's a whole different thing. It's the top professional league in what is a "different" sport and has it's own history based in a whole different country. Also, the CFL doesn't really have to compete with the NFL and NCAA like these other leagues will/do. These other leagues probably could only hope to have any of the clout the CFL does and they never will, because of the circumstances of what the CFL is. GDAWG
It'll be interesting the reaction of the local media to XFL Dallas. My guess is that it'll be negative and the XFL will be looked at as a big joke in Dallas, and I expect several of the radio hosts saying "there's no way that any sports fan would choose XFL Dallas over the Mavericks, Stars or Rangers" or something to that affect. That is who XFL Dallas is competing with, not the Cowboys, but the Mavericks, Stars and Rangers, three local area sports teams that have been around for years: the Rangers in 1972, the Mavericks in 1980 and the Stars in 1993. FC Dallas has been around since 1995 and they have struggled to win the hearts and minds of the DFW sports fans like the other three teams have had. What if in 2020, the Mavericks have another magical run in the NBA playoffs? Or the Stars repeat their 1998 success? If that happens in 2020, XFL Dallas becomes a big loser in the DFW market because the entire focus and attention of the DFW sports fans would be directed towards the Stars or Mavericks (or both). XFL Dallas will struggle to find a fan base due to local sports competition when they kick off. The Dallas Wings of the WNBA are the newest team, having moved from Tulsa in 2016, and yet they get very little in the way of coverage and will probably either move again or fold. Also, supposed XFL Dallas gets a few Cowboys Legends to be involved with the team, they will get media publicity for maybe a day, and everyone moves on, especially if the Stars and Mavericks have magical post season runs. DFW is known to have big name athletes, and the odds of XFL Dallas having one is low. Look at the Dallas Wings. You put Liz Cambage and Skylar Diggins Smith in a photo lineup alongside Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliot, Dirk Nowitzski, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Elvis Andrus and you ask ten casual sports fans in DFW to name the athletes, maybe 1 or 2 can name Smith and/or Cambage Now XFL Dallas could change that by having local athletes who went to high school in DFW or attended a Division 1 Texas school, but it's very hard for a non NFL football player from the DFW area to get any publicity as it's usually members of the Dallas Cowboys or NFL players from DFW who play for other teams who get media coverage for professional football. Not really a different sport, but I get what you mean - and it touches on something important - People see these leagues as low-level football, stocked with talent that's lower than most D1 NCAA teams. What if you changed the sport? For example, play 9 on 9 or something. Get rid of a lineman or two, or make some other change. You'd instantly raise the talent level, since there would be fewer players, you'd make it different enough to be intriguing and get a few people to watch just to see what it's like, you'd give players more opportunities since there may be only one WR on the field at any given time, so you'd build stars, etc. Not saying taking people off the field is the right way to change it enough, but something like that could actually give a league a better chance to work. Maybe have two gorillas available for use. "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." This is absurd, there's already a dire shortage of NFL calibre gorillas as it is. Maybe one gorilla and one baboon, or maybe add a non-primate like a grizzly bear to really be unique. I've thought for the last few years about this...on a US sized field, remove the two lineman and implement some of the CFL rules like the waggle, rouge, no fair catches, shorter play clock, etc. to make for a faster tempo game.
