What is the story with Cousins and his unofficially-former team?  It always seemed like he was gonna be gone but I’ve never known why.  Do they just not think he’s good?  Is he unhappy?

I know Kirk's dad, and he says that he always loved it in Washington. It's the team that didn't want him.

Which is stupid, since he gave them what every NFL team wants - stability at QB. If they built around him with good weapons, etc. they could’ve had something. The way they treated him is baffling.

Question to you folks: is Dan Snyder the worst owner in professional sports? And if so, where does he rank all-time on the “bad owners” list?

He's owned the team for something like 20 years now, right? Everyone hates him and the team generally underperforms. He's also gone through at least two franchise quarterbacks in the past decade, which is pretty special.

But the worst owner in American professional sports will always be Donald Sterling. It'll take a lot to usurp him for greed, racism, and indifference to the product on the court.

Sterling's a modern-day Calvin Griffith.

Dan Snyder may not be the worst owner in sports, but he's one of them.  It must be frustrating to be a fan of that team.  He's like Mark Cuban, without the competence.

I still wouldn't be totally surprised to see Washington from do something REALLY stupid, like tag Cousins again.

No argument with Sterling being the worst, but Snyder is a terrible owner for the exact opposite of the bolded part. He desperately wants the team to be successful on the field, so he can't help but mettle with everything, and screw things up because he's an incompetant buffoon that can't let qualified people do their jobs.

As for this trade, I'm not upset by it. Maybe I'm just jaded, but Snyder could do and has done so much worse. At least we know who Washington's quarterback will be for the next 4 years with no drama. Ah, who am I kidding, of course there will be drama.

Now the drama will focus on who’s going to be the coach after next year if they don’t win the division.  There’s always drama in Washington.

I think we throw around "franchise" too often.  Is Cousins really a "franchise" quarterback?  He can definitely win you some games, and has had a few great ones, but that doesn't make someone a franchise qb that can carry a team on his shoulders.

There's always exceptions, but I kinda think that if you don't have an elite/franchise QB, you should just save your money and get "a guy" to hold down the fort while you do whatever it takes to get in position to strike when one comes available either in the draft or FA.  It's just too important to have a great QB now, and it's damn hard to have to hope to get lucky with a Brady.  I wouldn't draft a guy in the 1st or 2nd round unless I honestly thought he had a chance to be a bona fide franchise player, because otherwise you're investing years in him and robbing yourself of the opportunity to pounce on a Wentz when he comes up.  Once you identify a "franchise" guy, you do whatever it takes - mortgage your future - anything - to get him.  Figure out the rest later - the QB is just too important.

I don't think he's top 5, but when you compare him to other QBs that have hit free agency, he's pretty good. There's not a ton of great QBs in the league. There's only about 10 or 12 that I'd feel really good about having on my team before you start getting into the ones with lots of question marks. IMO, of course.

I enjoy how Alex Smith has only played for teams that are a shade of red paired with a shade of yellow/gold. It's like how Shaq only played for warm weather cities until he ruined it and went to Cleveland in his second to last year.

These kind of uniform quirks are fun. A year or so ago I pointed out that Sam Bradford has only played for teams that don't have their main logo on the helmet (Rams, Eagles, Vikings)

And, he's also played for three teams with Native American imagery (Chiefs, Redskins and Utes) -- as well as for a team with a nickname of a people that helped push a bunch of Natives off their lands (49ers). So there's that.

I didn't even think about college. Wild.

Alex Smith has only ever played for red teams.

This means that if he makes a pro bowl with Washington he will break the streak. Hope he sucks!
