Lazy Googling in the Media

Today SI posted their big piece on the Mavs’ front office. One problem...

And then back when the NFL Playoffs began, we had this gem with one concept logo and three throwbacks.

So, let this thread serve as a depository of all the times that newsroom interns blindly copy the first Google image hit that they run across.

I knew that logo looked funky. Jeez.

(Incredible and disturbing article, BTW. It's a must-read.)

The Boston ABC affiliate still lists the team as the Mighty Ducks.

Hard to find evidence, but I swear NBA.com would use the old metallic gold Cavs logo for years during the yellow gold era. They probably didn't fix it until this season when they started using a new primary.

ESPN's playoff machine uses the old Jaguars, Dolphins, and possibly the Bucs and Panthers logos in the selection area when a team has lost a game. I can't imagine anybody but me has ever noticed it, but it's there.

You are absolutely right; along with the Vikings, Rams, and Lions. It appears that they never bother to change the grayed out logos file.

I assume this also applies to their sister station in New Hampshire?

I don't have images but one of the local news stations in Milwaukee continually uses the Charlotte Bobcats logo when they show Charlotte Hornets scores on the bottom line. It's made even more confusing by the fact that it just reads 'CHARLOTTE' with no mascot. But then again, they use a lot of older logos.

Dare I say that the Lakers logo there is superior to the actual Lakers logo? ;)

You dare . . . because it is vastly superior to the real thing.

I love that Mavericks concept. It's quite a nice update of what they're using right now.
