Red Sox = Paper Tigers

i don’t care how many wins they have or how gaudy their stats are.

This is a team built for the regular season  and not the postseason.

Don’t trust them.

I wonder what it’s like to be able to just say whatever the hell you want without any reason whatsoever or anything to back it up, and be totally confident in yourself.

That's too bad, he's been a sizable part of the Cubs' recent success.

When was the last time St. Louis fired a manager midseason? Had to be one of the times they plugged Schoendienst in, right?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

No, you're actually not, "today we are all _____" is classic CCSLC Mandela Effect.

Per wikipedia, Joe Torre was informed his services would no longer be necessary in June 1995.  That worked out well.

Damn right. Matheny seemed like a good dude, but he lost his clubhouse. People act like the Cardinals are imploding, actually that happened about this time last year. This is where the Cardinals slowly build back up. 3 years and no playoffs in unacceptable in St. Louis. I know you sorry Cubbies fans don’t understand. Best of luck to Mike and the other two going forward. A new era starts tomorrow! Win or lose, proud to be a fan of this organization!

Hope MM catches on in the AL and does well. Now for the FO to make some real players moves.

I'll settle for the new manager not letting his grumpy veteran closer turn the stellar rookie closer into Rick Ankiel because "that's just how the game works" or something like that.

Exactly, no need to be an ass to Hicks. Wanna teach him something? Great! Wanna be a ****? Not okay.

And this is why everyone mocks cards fans as “the best fans in baseball”

Why? People laughing at the team imploding? Making fun of a rival (if that offends you, get a life)? Wishing Matheny best luck? Calling for the the office to make some moves? I don’t get it. Or is anything a Cardinals fan says an issue.

I don’t come here with the “God chose the Cardinals” B.S. I keep it real if I can. And 3 years with no playoffs IS AN ISSUE.

Managers barely matter. It's more that the Cardinals are just not that good. Or they're not good enough to overcome not having a ridiculously, luckily high BABIP with RISP. Sooner or later average guys were going to stop being magically good just because they have some birds on their jersey.

The Reds, on the other hand, are the best team in baseball. And the most bipolar.

Here comes a long winded, rambling rant:

I've been waiting for the moment the Cards would finally move away from Matheney for four years. Honestly I never thought they would actually fire him, let alone in the middle of the season. Hate to see somebody fired but it wasn't working out. He was not a good in-game manager,  couldn't figure out a double switch and always seemed to make a pitching change one batter too late. He had seemed to have lost the clubhouse, which was supposed to be his strong suit. I think the whole Bud Norris/Jordan Hicks debacle was blown out of proportion a bit, but still not a good look for Matheny to endorse Norris's behavior.

The fundamentals in St Louis have been terrible the last 3-4 years. Way too many errors and baserunning mistakes. I think the 2013 World Series run with an unstoppable Michael Wacha "earned" Matheny some extra time. This year has been particularly rough, with all of the injuries and a couple solid players having the worst seasons of their careers. Apparently it's gotten really bad if the perpetually supportive front office didn't think it was a good enough reason to give Matheny another season. It's particularly frustrating this year when the team is seriously underachieving, way less than the sum of its parts.

I wonder which direction the Cardinals will go now. I'm interested to see if they will have a fire sale and try to move veterans like Matt Carpenter or Carlos Martinez or do a soft reboot and try to make it big again next season with some free agent signings or moving some prospects/young players

To to be fair, I'm of the opinion the front office is just as much to blame for he Cardinals recent mediocrity, so I don't trust them to do the right thing and I fully expect another yes-man manager that can be the scapegoat for Mozalick?

I know, I know I'm spoiled as a Cardinals fan and I shouldn't be so bitter about the team missing the playoffs three years in a row because it's not that bad in the grand scheme of things, but it still sucks when they should be better than they are.

I'll stop rambling now. God bless you if you read the whole damn thing.

Just to put a bow on this, the actual line of "I am a Cardinal" is loads funnier than "Today, we are all Cardinals." Ah, we were kids.
