I read a very long biography called "The Kid" by Ben Bradlee, Jr., and it would agree with everything above.  The biggest thing missed was that his biggest passion was probably fishing.  In fact, he was arguably a world-class angler.

I read the same book around this time last year so nothing either of you have said is foreign to me.

What I will add is that he had what can generously be described as being a "complicated" relationship with his children.

May I remind you that you did this every time the Warriors lost a game for a month in the NBA thread.

Unfortunately, I can't add any context to this beyond what the documentary described mainly because I have precisely zero interest in fishing.

But he was a world classer fly fisherman. There is no doubt about it.

For all of Ted's hitting preparation and approach, the main reason for his success was because he was a freak of nature athlete. He was 6'3" which for that era was huge and while not particularly muscular, you could see the natural athletic build he had.

You compare the size of Williams' hands to the size of Babe Ruth's and their almost equal.

He could master pretty much any physical activity he set his mind to.

Had awesome seats to the O’s game yesterday, courtesy of a friend who himself got them from a friend. Wasn’t planning on going due to the rain, but he called me up at 8:00 and said “you wanna go after all?” And I was like sure why not.

We we got there in the third or fourth inning and caught a lot of the action. He pointed out to me on the way that it might be the last time we see Adam Jones or Jonathan Schoop live as Orioles. Both ended up homering, and I was able to record both on my phone. Plus at one point Kevin Cash put in Carlos Gomez to pitch when the result was beyond doubt and he kept throwing 90 mph pitches for balls, so much so that the fans around us started yelling at Cash to put in a real pitcher. Some (myself included) gave him a standing O as he left.

TL;DR I’m glad I went to the Orioles game yesterday despite the rain delay because we had awesome seats for free and a lot of crazy stuff happened

"People" = 1 person, so piss off.  I'm legit shocked that it's late July and the First Place Philadelphia Phillies are in first place, despite not being really good, and having a manager that openly states his preference for using coconut oil to jerk off with.

Their newish "managing partner" is a multi billionaire, who has committed to putting his own money into the team, as opposed to previous managing partners who stuck to (albeit relatively high) budgets.  Also their billion-dollar TV deal kicked in last year.

Writers are saying that there's been legit talks about making runs at both Machado and Harper in the offseason, to *laughs* fill both of their biggest holes.  The word is they're prepared to go $400M for Harper, and around the same for Machado, who has stated that he wants to play for familiar faces, and he has relationships with the First Place Philadelphia Phillies FO since Andy McPhail came from Baltimore and drafted him.

After the Sixers failure to get anyone good despite all the rumors, I'm not holding my breath on either of these, but that's the word on the proverbial street.

"The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."

I'm not. I predicted the Phillies would be a playoff team on the MLB Preview episode of our podcast.

He's just looking for an endorsement deal.

My Complete Philadelphia Sports Analysis Project Is Complete With Philadelphia Sports Analysis Projections: Eagles might repeat. Phillies will win the World Series in the next few years. Sixers will fail to live up to expectations and will not win the NBA Championship anytime soon. Flyers will make the playoffs. Union doesn't really exist in our reality. Villanova competes. Penn football plays smart football.

You forgot one thing:

Mike Trout flees Anaheim and joins the Phillies, while Arte Moreno is hanged, drawn, and quartered by Angels fans.

The Athletics will not have season ticket plans in 2019 instead, a membership plan with concession discounts and monthly options.

In a release, the Athletics said that A’s Access provides all members with general admission access to every 2019 regular season home game, a reserved seat plan, and benefits exclusive to members, such as concessions discounts.

“To better meet the evolving needs of our fans, we are changing our approach to membership,” Oakland COO Chris Giles said in a statement. “This flexible model is designed to serve both fans who want a more traditional reserved seat plan and those who desire a more flexible and social experience,” said A’s COO Chris Giles.

The A’s have already gotten experimental with flexible attendance options for fans this season, with the introduction of the Treehouse, behind the left field bleachers. The 10,000-square foot area — with a redwood patio deck, bar and lounge seating and two full-service bars — doesn’t have assigned seats, and was introduced with a $120 annual payment, good for tickets for the entire season. Now, a fan can buy a $29.99 monthly subscription, which gets them into any game, so if the A’s play 15 home games in a month, and a fan goes to all of them, admission works out to about $2 per game.

A’s Access members will get 50 percent off of concessions, 25 percent off of merchandise, as well as parking benefits, and an allotment of seat upgrade credits (for games not included in their reserved ticket plan).

I really hope the A’s catch Seattle and make the playoffs. I’d love to see them beat the Yankees out in the Bronx during a nationally televised night game for the Wild Card. That would make me so happy. MLB would blow a gasket. If this dream scenario were to happen, the best of 3 might become a reality quickly.

Have you actually taken a look at the A’s recent playoff history? They’ve lost like 47 consecutive series clinching/elimination games.

Yeah the A's or Mariners vs the Yankees would be a result that we'd all see coming. At least Seattle has Paxton who is very capable have a lockdown game. The A's don't quite have any studs at starting pitching.(I know Manaea has a no hitter this year, but he isn't quite on Paxton's, etc level.

Oh trust me I know. But thats kind of part of my point. If the A’s were to beat the mighty Yankees that MLB hypes the heck out of then something might actually change. Not saying it will happen. Just hope.

But it’s still like betting on the crippled chihuahua that’s been beaten 10x already by the same pit bull.

Orioles’ (much needed) fire sale continues, as they trade Kevin Gausman to the Braves. I love this deal. Gausman was going nowhere fast with this organization, and despite his huge potential, he never parlayed it into sustained excellence. The definition of inconsistency. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into Jake Arrieta pt. 2, which it definitely could because it’s the Orioles, but I really don’t think so. Great move by Duquette imo (did I just say that?).

EDIT: O'Day and his bloated contract that the Orioles refused to give clearly superior releiver Andrew Miller are part of the Gausman deal.  Schoop also heads to the Brewers for their No. 7 prospect.  Burn it.  Burn it all down.
