Retromaniac
Why does the NFL not do ties? Lately, I have been seeing no ties, therefore, I assume ties are not in the NFL anymore. Why not? Ties are something to save the fans the agony of staying at the game forever. The NFL, NHL, and NBA all need ties because otherwise games go on forever. Joshawaggie
they still do ties, its just that somebody usually wins, so there arent so many ties.
jkrdevil
The NFL has games end in a tie. It's just uncommon becuase overtime is sudden death so the chance that someone scores in 15 minutes is likely. The NBA doesn't have ties but there is so much scoring that multiple overtime games are sort of uncommon. The only happen a few times a year.
Fusebazell
The last tie was in 2002 I believe when the Steelers tied the Falcons 38-38 or something like that and Plaxico Burress was stopped on the one yard line before overtime ended.
WJMorris3
I remember the tie with the Steelers and Falcons - and the one before that between the Ravens and Eagles in...1997, I believe.

NJTank
Yeah ties can happen in the NFL there was 1 in 2002 in fact, but they are rare there have only been 3 since 1990.

Survival79
This doesn't break it down by year, but it gives you an idea of how many ties have occurred among current NFL teams:All-Time Records of Current NFL Franchises
yh
I thought it was a reference to a certain piece of men's clothing... I was kinda hoping that this was in fact the topic being discussed so that I could lament the present state of attire for NFL coaches. Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I preferred the days when NFL head coaches dressed in the style represented below by the best dressed NFL coach of all time. sj32
Ties were common until overtime was introduced in 1974. They made the overtime one 15-minute sudden-death period so that the fans would not have to stay forever (at least not for a regular season game). WJMorris3
The joke is that the first OT game ended in a tie, no less.
Mac the Knife
Landry was the last of his breed in terms of attire. Nowadays coaches are required to wear whatever "NFL Equipment" is prescribed by the league.
