Wings
Vince probably thinks Charlie Ebersol betrayed him. Does a 30 for 30 on the XFL and turns around and starts his own league. How dare he!!!!
Scrumptious Ham
Here is the deal about sports leagues. To become fat and happy, you must have a TV deal. Until you get that TV deal, you have to survive on scraps. Aka, ticket sales. The AAF does not have a TV deal. They are basically paid programming. So they need ticket sales to survive until TV ratings show a good enough return for network investment. When your biggest draw can't hit 30k in a football league, you are screwed. When your TV ratings are trash, you screwed. The AAF is now hoping for one thing with this band aid. Survive long enough until the NFL decides they want to back you as an official minor league. They had an offer on the table to join the AAF in the very early stages, and none of them would touch it with a ten foot pole. Obviously I can't give you guys details about whats going on, but what I will say is that everyone is way off on what is really happening and that nothing is wrong. I can't believe people are running with this story and thinking all doom and gloom about the league without actually talking to AAF people for the official account. I can't wait until we get the facts out there to everyone and all this crazy speculation and nonsense can stop. 11 hours ago, Ferdinand Cesarano said: MLS? The only "issues" that MLS has is deciding precisely from whom to accept hundreds of millions of dollars for expansion. That league is turning away ownership groups. MLS is amongst the top ten leagues in world football in terms of revenue. And the values of MLS teams — that is to say: the values of investor-operator stakes in MLS — are skyrocketing, the highest-valued MLS teams having already surpassed the lowest-valued NHL clubs. MLS has labour trouble on the horizon; but as far as financials, it is in excellent shape. dfwabel
Now you've got this today. Orlando Apollos are now training in Georgia as a result of Florida's Workers Comp laws and the injury the player suffered against San Antonio. Who failed to research this? Just another expense or issue that they should have known about. Quote The Orlando Apollos will be forced to practice across the state line in Georgia, citing Florida's exclusion of professional athletes from receiving workers' compensation. State law says that professional athletes are not considered employees, and therefore not covered through workers' compensation laws. Normally, major professional sports leagues with Florida-based teams like the NFL, MLB, NBA, et al, can afford to find insurance companies who will take on the cost of covering every team. The AAF, being a start-up, has not yet found an insurance provider willing to do so. For the Apollos, that means traveling to a hotel in Jacksonville and then taking a bus about 30 minutes to Kingsland, Georgia, to practice. The state of Georgia will cover the Apollos for workers' comp, so long as they spend 51 percent of their practice days on their side. "We really need to make sure we take the necessary steps to take care of our players. Our responsibility is always to do what we must do to make sure our players have the best available coverage," AAF CEO Charlie Ebersol told the Orlando Sentinel. Scrumptious Ham
You know why nobody researched it? Because if you want to start a football league in America without the NFL'season backing, you have a crappy business acumen. Btw, I live in Kingsland. I wonder if practice is open. monkeypower
As seen on /r/AAF_Football (what did the guy who started the subreddit think the F in AAF stood for? Probably also calls it an ATM machine) Quote Also let's face it even minor league football has a chance to be more profitable than the NHL, that's just how popular professional football is. Forget the fact a hockey owner just prolonged the league by paying less money for the entire league than his hockey team and another guy just had to pay $500 million for an expansion team, just look at how many profitable minor league football leagues there are right now. (It only has three upvotes and the only two comments responding to it are not agreeing with him) (I also do think there are people in places in the States which would watch minor league football over the NHL, I would rather watch the WHL over the AAF, but to think it could be more profitable than one of the big 4 is crazy)
NYC Cosmos
Does Raleigh even want a team? See Skyhawks, Raleigh. Will the league expand to 10 next year? If they are smart, they will keep it at 8. I really like what Ron Jaworski is doing with the Arena League – starting (again) slowly...getting Ted Leonis on board...building rivalries. AC/Philly, Baltimore/Washington. I wish Tampa Bay and Orlando were still around. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1621462554538638&set=g.802800243200710&type=1&theater&ifg=
