Tradition Evolved: Tennessee Titans Unveil New Uniforms

I hope nobody is kidding themselves about this.  Make no mistake, THIS is the uniform combination they will be wearing.

Monochrome in the NFL sucks... not sometimes, not even most of the time.  It's a 100% scientific proven fact.

This uniform is going to be just like the Seahawks.  If they wear it exclusively with the white pant (in the Seahawks' case, it would be their gray pants) they would have an average to slightly below average NFL uniform... say somewhere in the low 20's. But worn like the above... and it WILL be worn like the above... this uniform is swirling at the bottom of the toilet bowl with the Bucs, Browns, and the monochrome Seahawks.

I couldn't agree more. Monochrome in the NFL should be banned. As a Titans fan with a preference for the light blue, this is a pretty tough set to take.

Likes: didn’t shoehorn red

Dislikes: shoehorned swords(??)

Honestly, if they didn’t throw in those weird armpit inserts on the home and aways, it would be easier for me to accept the overall design, swords and all, regardless of whether or not I actually thought it looked good (which I really don’t). However, they really are just a strange detail that’s throwing the whole thing off for me (moreso than just being a ‘meh’ modern design). At least they still know red’s place in their overall scheme.

That’s all I can really say. Screw grey. Go Jags.

My reaction exactly. Better helmet, not enough light blue, those half-side panels are crap, I actually like the number font and the idea of the shoulder-sword but feel like it may be too much light color on a dark jersey...doesn't look bad in the photos but might in different lighting. Also, I read the helmet has a metallic finish? Is it kind of like the Giants' metal-flake? If so that's good...but again, seeing it in different kinds of light will show how much difference it makes. If it's anything like New York's, it'll be great. But I feel like that stupid underarm thing is gonna be every bit as bad as the irritating side panels that the Bengals and Patriots wear.

Sigh... I'm a good little lemming because the more I look at these, the more I don't hate them......

I even sorta like the navy on navy on navy look. Kill me.

It's probably the internet's fault, but the new helmet feels like one of those color swap concepts that are always floating around. I think I like it. I'm generally not a fan of white helmets anyway.

The sword shoulders seem like total overkill.

Pros

  • The number font is an upgrade, regardless of how skinny-looking they are.
  • I don't mind the use of silver; it's not used as much as I thought it would be. It actually gives it some charm.
  • There's a few good combos in there, like the navy/white/navy or navy/columbia/navy.

Cons

  • There is too much navy, even when they have several other colors included. Columbia blue seemed like a fan-favorite, which is puzzling seeing it's more limited usage.
  • I'm not feeling the navy helmets. I mean I can tolerate them, but the logo looks much better on a white background.
  • Why are side panels still being used? This isn't the 2000's anymore. And when the fans said they like the sword logo, adding blade-like stripes and panels is not what they had in mind, Amy!
  • There's some bad combos in there; that Columbia blue monochrome is a damn nightmare.

Overall, these uniforms aren't as good as I wanted them to be. I still think this is one of Nike's better redesigns, if that says anything. It just feels too busy... and gimmicky.

These are horrible. The numbers probably will be illegible from afar (not that it matters anymore), and they've still got the awful yoke to them that screams CFL. The logo is still a "flaming thumbtack", and it's terrible outdated and just plain terrible.

But why would I expect anything more from Bud Adams' offspring when he was one of the worst owners in the NFL?

Without that number font they're somewhere between decent and ok, with it these are hot garbage especially in the monochrome format. In the bottom 5 sets in the league, and I hate them. A lot. The NFL has absolutely no idea how to market.

With all they've done to hide it until the reveal, it'd make no sense to have only a clear garbage bag covering it up before then.  They'll probably put it on shortly before or after the unveiling occurs.

Trust me, I know. I work in retail and whenever we change the mannequin we say it's naked. My feelings on the uniforms are "meh". It's an upgrade from what they had, but I feel like they could've done better.

Yeah, these are awful. The worst part is the change to the helmet. Their last helmet had some goofy stripes, but it worked for them. But now their new helmet has an even goofier stripe and it's so weirdly small. It makes the helmet look like it's missing something without the stripes on the front of the helmet. If anything, make the stripe thick like the sword on the jersey and alt logo (BTW, did they ditch the alt logo, too?!?!). Instead they used some dinky little fencing sword. Why?

Overall they're gimmicky, contrived, and totally forgettable. They're basically a "Row The Boat" decal away from looking like they're playing in the MAC.

Also, RIP to the very uniform set that got me into sports branding and design in the first place. I never could've imagined that the two teams that got me hooked on this crap (Bucs and Titans) would end up looking like such clownshows in the end. This sucks :(
