American Premier League

Section30

Recommended Posts

The first non-original team in the American Premier League is DCSC or the DC Soccer Club. Founded four years after the league, they have spent most of their existence in the top half of the tables but never seem to win when it counts. Similar to Boston, they have had years of bad fortune and heartbreak in the post season. DC is known mainly as the Reds due to their identity being so red heavy as well as their main kit being almost entirely red. DC fans are known to always wear their red with pride, no matter where the Eagles are playing, there will be a sea of red. Home games are especially cool, with all but the visitors section being covered in red. DCSC has a number of rivalries but there are a couple that stand out; Their rivalries with New York and Boston are respectable but none compare to what they have with the teams from Pennsylvania, Philly in particular. Games against the Bells and Iron are always must watch, with how close the teams are to each other there is usually a huge away following wherever the match is. When the teams meet in the playoffs there is a history of things getting chippy both on and off the pitch... they just really dont like each other.

DCSC's logo is a red and white shield with a flying eagle coming out of the top. DCSC is proudly shown above the stars and bars of the Washington DC flag, and under the flag there is an old school soccer ball.

Their home kit has remained the same throughout the teams existence, all red with white cuffs and a white collar, above the name on the back there is a small DC flag. Their away kit is a simple white top with the bars from the DC flag over the chest, red pants and white socks. The third kit is all blue to represent DC being the nations capital, the sleeves and pants are a darker shade of blue, the logos remain red and white, and there are sublimated stars that fade the farther up the jersey they go.

Ok, so I've been working on Chicago's logo for the last day and can't figure out which I prefer so here are the 3 I've narrowed it down to.

Option A: Flag on top of shield with Chicago FC on white banner below.

Option B: Chicago FC on top of shield banner is Chicago flag.

Option C: Chicago FC over flag on shield with team nickname "the Butchers" on blue banner (based off Stoke City and Hull City having the nickname on the logo)

The banner colors on option A and C are interchangeable.

I like option B, but I'd extend the blue stripes in the banner to the red and have blue/white/blue instead of white/blue/white/blue/white

How's this? I think it loses the fact that it's supposed to be the city flag a bit because the flag actually goes white/blue/white/blue/white

The first team in the western conference is Chicago FC. Founded in 1955, they have had a very storied, successful history. Always near the top of the western conference, they have won 7 championships, tied for the fourth most in the league. The team is known as the Butchers due to Chicago's history as a meat packing haven and the cities nickname "the Hog Butcher of the World". The teams identity is heavily based on the city flag, the 6 pointed stars from the flag are on the logo and uniforms, and the red and light blue from the flag are the teams colors. Chicago has some big rivalries with Milwaukee, Minnesota, St. Louis, and in the eastern conference with Detroit. Their stadium has earned the nickname "the Slaughterhouse" based off the teams nickname, but fitting due to the reputation Chicago FC has as a very hard place to win on the road. The atmosphere is electric from the national anthem to the final whistle, much like the Blackhawks the fans cheer through the national anthem. The most well known tradition the team has though is after a win, when the Butchers win all the fans stay in the stands while "Sweet Home Chicago" plays and everyone sings along.

Chicago FC's logo is a shield that is found on the seal of the city of Chicago. the top of the shield has Chicago FC on the top with the lines and stars from the city flag. Below the flag are crossed butcher knives with the year of the teams founding, between the knives there is a 'Y' in a circle which is the city of Chicago's symbol.

Their home kit is a red and blue striped jersey with blue pants, and red socks, the socks have the 6 pointed star from the logo and flag. Their away kit is a white top with the blue lines from the city flag around the sponsor, blue pants, and white socks with the stripes and a star from the flag. The third kit is meant to represent Chicago's skyline and buildings, the kit is all gray and white with the skyline of the city wrapping around the bottom of the jersey, the 2 tone gray is meant to represent the colors of the skyscrapers and the bean sculpture and to provide a separation from the red and blue, the socks have the crossed butcher knives from the logo.

Man all of these kits are amazing. Love that Chicago logo you ended up on, really good stuff, but Boston, oof, the sleeves on that home green kit are the dopeness. Did a great job avoiding the characteristic green hoops a lot of "Irish/Celtic, etc-branded" teams have, like Celtic or Shamrock Rovers. Great take.

Looks great so far.

How did the Empire State Building being placed where it is not get a rise out of anyone?

Look forward to seeing a few teams in out of the way places.

Logano wins BOWL before Chargers.

We head back to the east for our next team, the Pittsburgh Iron. The Iron are the first team in the American Premier League with an "American" name with the city followed by the team nickname. The Iron got their name from the Steel and Iron industry in the city but chose "Iron" to differentiate themselves from the Steelers. The Iron use the standard Pittsburgh colors of black and yellow, this is also the unofficial nickname of the Iron across the league. Pittsburgh has multiple rivalries with teams like DCSC and the Detroit Motors, but none compare to the "Pennsylvania Derby" against Philadelphia FC and the "Battle of the Turnpike" with Cleveland. Fans of the Iron are known for using Terrible Towels wherever they are, adopting the towels from the Steelers, the stands at home games are always full of waving yellow towels. Where most teams supporters use the traditional scarf, supporters of the Iron have something to call their own.

Pittsburgh's logo is a shield with a castle top pattern on the top, this is based off of the castle from the crest of the City of Pittsburgh. in the shield there are 3 vertical stripes, 2 black and 1 yellow, this is the classic design the team has always used on their main kit. The team name is written in two ribbons across the front of the shield, the ribbons also feature the blue and white checkered pattern from the city crest. Above the bottom ribbon there is a bridge to represent the many bridges in the city and why Pittsburgh has the nickname "the City of Bridges". Above the bridge is the year of the teams founding, 1957. And below the bottom ribbon there are crossed irons.

Their home kit is a simple black kit with yellow accents, a thick yellow vertical stripe goes down the front of the jersey, there are thin angled lines in the yellow stripe to add flair to a timeless design. Their away kit is a yellow jersey with a black gradient at the bottom leading to black pants and then yellow socks with a black gradient at the top. Their third kit is all blue and white and is meant to symbolize the blue and white checkered pattern from the city crest., the logos on this kit are just the crossed irons.

We stay in the east for our next team, the Detroit Motors. Joining the APL in 1958, they have only won 2 championships. Named for the auto industry in the city, the motors are known to be a team built on speed. The Motors have a few rivals like Pittsburgh and Cleveland, but neither compare to their rivalry with Chicago FC. Games between the Motors and Butchers only happen once a year due to being in separate conferences which has made the rivalry a little less intense than it was in the past, the fans of both teams still remember the rivalry though and there is no love lost between the fanbases. Detroit fans are mainly known for singing "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey during the matches.

The Motors logo is a shield based off of the old Cadillac logo, there is a diagonal ribbon across the front with the team name on it. Below the ribbon there are the 5 stripes from their home kit, and above the ribbon there is a soccer ball/hubcap hybrid and the year of the teams founding.

their home kit is a classic, red jersey with silver stripes and sleeves, black pants and red socks, the jock tag logo is an intertwined DM. The Motors away kit is all silver with red accents, there is a sublimated pinstripe pattern on the jersey, same jock tag logo. Their third kit is meant to represent the most iconic statue in the city "the Spirit of Detroit" the greenish-blue base is meant to be the oxidized look of the statue while the gold accents are meant to represent the orb and people in the statues hands, the jersey features a diagonal pin stripe pattern, this kit features the intertwined DM logo.
