Wings Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Arizona as the surprise winner of the Pac-12 South? I'm not sold on USC this year and UCLA is going to take a few years to get used to Chip Kelly. Utah is ok. Colorado will regress again after their run a few years ago. At least it'll be fun watching Herm train wreck it this season at ASU.
GriffinM6 Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I can see my Canes having a very similar season to last year. I'm still not sure we can beat Clemson, but I do see an ACCCG rematch. QB is still an issue, but the RB corps is strong and the defense is still great. Should be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully we can make a run to the playoffs.

Is it bad I want them to lose so they can get a new coach for the better?
dfwabel Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Pac-12 presidents passed a rule in which 5-7 teams with the appropriate APR score will not be bowl eligible. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/pac-12-passes-rule-that-5-7-teams-cant-go-to-bowl-games-even-with-apr-score/ The Bad Boys Mowers Bowl will move from Tropicana Field to Raymond James Stadium.

See Red Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I'm excited and can't wait to see Florida under Mullen. The problem is Feleipe Franks is probably the best option at QB short-term unless they get a grad transfer as I don't want them to rush Emory Jones into anything. I think 8 or 9 wins is realistic.

The Athletic's Chantel Jennings published a long form on ASU, Edwards, and the restructuring of the football program. If you can access it, read it. If you cannot, she spent a podcast with Jon Wilner (Mercury News) in late April discussing her story.

Redshirts can now play in as many as four games without losing their redshirt status. Under the previous rule, redshirts were considered burned if a player took a single snap. Adds a bit of interest to some of the weeks where teams play cupcakes. Florida, for example, can redshirt Emory Jones while still getting him on the field against Charleston Southern and Idaho.

It also really hurts the Group of 5 conferences. Power 5 coaches will say this is done for "player saftey" as the ACC coaches did but these teams can now guarantee that a FR will get four games in w/o losing a season. That's why Tricky Nicky, Mullen, and Dabo were so in favor of the change and wanted it last season. Add the new early signing period, and the rich get richer.

See Red Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 And another significant rule change. College athletes will be allowed to transfer without the permission of the university or coach, and the school will be obligated to enter the athlete's name in a national transfer database within two business days. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2018/06/13/ncaa-lightens-transfer-rules-assist-student-athletes/698386002/ This, as I understand it, will keep coaches from placing limits on where a player can transfer.

This is just a step in the NCAA attempting to streamline Bylaws and rules. Football, basketball, baseball and hockey were the only sports which made players ask for permission sit when transferring (I wonder why? Wait, they generate income!) There's been a committee for 18+ months trying to get it done, but most every recommendation gets tabled by the chancellors/presidents. This is the fourth attempt in addressing transfers and it looks like something actually stuck this week. The AP College Football podcast from January 23 had the chair of the transfer working committee, South Dakota State AD Justin Sell, who was candid in talking about what the committee was doing. Now, the notification of the transfer by the former coaching staff will need to be monitored as coaches are still a$$holes by nature.
alxy8s Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 "One significant caveat is that major NCAA conferences can still implement rules that are more restrictive than the national rule." So this won't make much of a difference in the end, I'd imagine. At the very least, it'd be easy to see conferences disallowing transfers within the conference, intrastate, and/or within the conference's geographical footprint.

Week 1 August 30-September 3 Might actually be the first time I can remember that Notre Dame plays at home in primetime and it'll actually be the biggest game going on. Feels like most weeks when NBC puts ND into the 7:30 time slot, it's overshadowed by the ABC and/or FOX games, when playing at the traditional 3:30 kickoff would've made it the clear biggest game.
