A pretty close to full strength France is currently losing to the USMNT on home soil.

In a word, oof.

To be fair, they're just trying to not get hurt.

No issue at all with it.

As always, allez les bleus

I know close to nothing about soccer and of course Canada isn’t gonna be there, but Iceland sounds fun as hell so I’m all over that bandwagon.

Is it in bad taste to refer to the opening match of Russia v Saudi Arabia as the "Oppression Bowl"? - cause I'm gonna do it anyway.

With no Holland and no USA in this tournament (these are dark times; dark times indeed) the rooting order is as follows:

1. Iceland

2. Underdogs

3. The rest; except the "nevers": Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, and Portugal. May they never lift a trophy again.

Having no USA in this tournament, I usually look to my ancestry. I have ancestry in England and Germany (also, Netherlands and Scotland) so I will root for these two teams. Outside of that, Belgium is fun to watch and Iceland is a great story. Also, I'd like to see Messi get a title so Argentina is a rooting interest, as well.

After he accepted an offer to become Real Madrid’s next manager, Spain have sacked Julen Lopetegui two days before the World Cup. Lopetegui was undefeated in his time as manager. Madness.

Well, we qualified for 2026 as part-hosts, so there's that.

I can’t see past the Germans again. Spain looked another good bet, until they punt their manager two days before the Portugal game! France look good on paper, but I’m not sure they play as a team on the park. And as ever the big two from South America will be in the mix, I’d love to see Brazil win it again, but I don’t see them getting past a good European team.

I think England will get to the Quarterfinals, exceed expectations while not really threatening to win the tournament. But could really push for Euro 2020 glory with a home final at Wembley.

With no Italy, Scotland falling short again, and even Ireland missing out, I’ve not really been hyped for this World Cup. But with one day to go, the old Buzz is building again! One month of solid football to crown our World Champions for the next 4 years! I can’t wait!

This.

Definitely am used to being more amped further in advance but now that it's tomorrow: I'm psyched!

Have to go with Germany. I think they're top-to-bottom the best team - even better than Brazil or France.

Wasn't really excited about the World Cup until now, since the USMNT is not in it, but definitely getting excited now that it is here.

Have the Russians been playing possum for six months or is Saudi Arabia that bad?

Saudi Arabia looked like me playing FIFA. That’s not good.
