Coyotes Bring Back the Kachina as New Third Uniform

Like some sort of mythical bird whose name I just cannot recall, the Phoenix Coyotes original “Kachina” uniforms have returned. Banking on a wave of 90’s nostalgia, the Arizona Coyotes introduced their “new” throwback third uniforms tonight at their NHL […]

Outstanding. Having the pattern on the collar brought this jersey up by a few points.

It was always on the collar...in recent years, they made the pattern much smaller than the original (I think the newer pattern looks better).

Love it. It's representative of the local history and art style. It pays respects to the native American influence of the area, and it's not like any other jersey in the league. If character was a stat in jersey design this would be 10/10

I love the Coyotes original look, and it’s surreal knowing it will be back. At the same time I’m a little disappointed that the team opted to bring the old look back without any tweaking. I was hoping they’d tweak the colors at the very least to bring them into alignment with their current primaries.

I realize it’s a minor complaint, and if it came down to a return of the classic jersey or no jersey at all, I’d choose the classic jersey hands down. But this feels like a bit of a cop-out all the same.

Love it or hate it, this jersey has regional cultural significance and makes this bland, forgettable franchise stand out.

Exactly. I know some people hate the robo-Coyote, but the design is so perfect for Phoenix. It’s MILES better than the yawning dog they use now.

I may just have to snag one of these.

I'm aware, I'm just saying taking this route rather than a bland, solid-colored Adidas collar is better.

That logo hasn't aged well at all.  Kachina Coyote is on the whimsical and silly side but so is playing hockey in the desert so it works.

Coyote playing hockey is ludicrous, but I love that he’s wearing the moon’s sweater.  The design is also terrific in how it represents Coyote’s chaotic nature.

The only drawback I have with this look is how drab it can look on the ice.  Otherwise it’s a classic.

While we’re on the topic, I despise the Coyotes modern look.  That redesign style is one that you reward a team that is in the playoff mix and wins cups.   The thinking of “dress for success” is so overrated.

Not to mention that the Coyotes went from mystical, romantic, regional, and cultural aesthetics to a minimalist look that instead of celebrating Coyote highlights A coyote, which regularly gets shot and hit by cars.
