Week late, but 2018 is underway

And the argo manage to score only 1 point in just under 41 minutes of gametime

Did they look good doing it though?

Logano wins BOWL before Chargers.

I’m not too familiar with Canadian rules, but how do you get 1 point in Canadian football. In American football it’s impossible.

This is call the Rouge.

Scoring one point is awarded when the ball is kicked into the end zone by any legal means, other than a convert (successful or not) or a successful field goal, and the receiving team does not return, or kick, the ball out of its end zone.

in other words, @dont care you pretty much score a single/rouge whenever a touchback happens(keeping in mind that a missed field goal is a live ball and can be returned)

Yeah that is if the other team's goal is to embarrass the first team with a TD running back from the backfield after the missed field goal and rub it in and get insane heat but exciting way to watch and say HOLY BLEEP!!! Simple enough dont give other team an ammo like that to do it...

False.

Even before the 2-point conversion, a 1-point safety could be scored by the defense if somehow the kicking team were to maneuver the ball 98 yards backwards into their own endzone and then fail to return it out without the defensive team ever possessing it.

Also, remember in the CFL a field goal that hits the uprights is a DEAD BALL and no points are scored. So, sometimes in tie games very late, you'll see the kicker purposefully miss the kick wide just to avoid the chance of hitting the upright, but hopefully not so wide he literally misses the endzone.

Also, I love to watch this video anytime someone questions the single point rule. Also, just like any other punt, you must give the receiver a 5-yard halo. Which is why Montreal had such an easy attempt to punt it back into the endzone.

That's some crazy stuff.

Reminds me of Rugby Union, but you can't kick it out from inside your own 20.

In a nutshell (it's way more convoluted and difficult to explain that just that), the CFL started as a Canadian rugby union league.

From Rule 3, Section 2, Article 4 of the CFL rulebook...

Quote

Article 4 – Single Point Or Rouge
If the ball is kicked into the Goal Area by an opponent, a rouge is scored:
(1) when the ball becomes dead in possession of a team in its own Goal Area or,
(2) when the ball touches or crosses the Dead Line or a Sideline in Goal, and touches the ground, a player or some object beyond these lines.
AR: Team A kicks to Team B. B1 attempting to catch the ball on Team B’s 3-yard line, fumbles it and is tackled with the ball in possession in the Team B Goal Area. RULING – Rouge (ball deemed to have been kicked into Goal Area by Team A).
AR: Team A kicks to Team B. B1 catches the ball in the Field of Play while moving towards own Goal Line and, in the judgment of the official, the momentum carries B1 into own Goal Area. RULING – Rouge (possession deemed to have been gained in the Goal Area).
After a rouge, the team scored against shall next put the ball into play by a scrimmage as first down at any point between the hash marks on its 35-yard line.
If the single point was scored as the result of an unsuccessful field goal attempt, the team scored against may elect to scrimmage the ball at any point between the hash marks on its own 35-yard line or at the previous line of scrimmage.
NOTE: For the purposes of this Article, a drop kick or place kick shall, without exception, be deemed to be a field goal attempt.
NOTE: If during a kickoff, the kicked ball proceeds through the Goal Area and across the Dead Line or Sideline in Goal without being touched, there shall be no score and the ball shall be awarded to the receiving team at any point between the hash marks on its own 25-yard line.

FWIW, under the right circumstances, this rule can provide some high drama.  For example...

2010 Final Play - Montreal vs. Toronto

And in case you're wondering what happened there...

(00:09) D. DUVAL Missed Field Goal T36 (47 yds), M. BRADWELL Missed Field Goal Return -19 (4 yds), M. BRADWELL Punt (37 yds), D. DUVAL Punt Return T22 (0 yds), D. DUVAL Punt (35 yds), G. SHAW Punt Return (9 yds), G. SHAW Fumble T-4 , D. DIEDRICK Fumble Recovery , D. DIEDRICK Fumble Return (0 yds) - Touchdown

Correct.  Though I find it funny that three of us, in explaining the rouge, have now put up video to the same play...  :D

It was also funny that the guy who kicks it out from his in goal area had players in front of him that are off side but they continue to run at him?

Then once he kicks it out those players then run towards the catcher.

If you are not behind the kicker who keeps everyone on side how can you approach the catcher? Is it similar rules to the NFL?

To me it just looked like WWE with a football, no not XFL. :)

The receiver/catcher gets a 5 yard halo which addresses this.

I think he means this:

On a punt, anyone behind the kicker is 'live' to go after the ball (there is no 5 yard halo for them). But, that rarely matters since they'll be lining up behind where the ball is kicked, which is a hell of a run to violate the 5 yard halo in most instances (also the reason they always have to at least down the ball, not like NFL where you can just let it roll dead and the play ends).

Though, reading it again, he seems to act like that this is a kickoff. There is no offside/onside with the kicker in this instance. Just who is live to go after the ball and who has to respect the 5 yard halo.

That's how I read it.

Despite both plays being kicking plays they are very different plays. I don't think comparing them makes much sense.
