9-7 is a pretty common record in the NFL.

The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia eagles hadn’t finished 9-7 in 40 years! Every other team has - probably multiple times.

I've been waiting for this for so long I don't even know how to feel. I've been a Bengals fan since 1990 which means Marvin Lewis has been head coach for more than half my life.

I appreciate all he did for the franchise. When he got here in 2003 they hadn't had a winning season since 1990. They were the cheapest team in the league, they made players buy their own gatorade and jock straps. Marvin Lewis pulled Mike Brown into something resembling a modern day NFL operation. They actually have a dedicated person on staff handling football decisions, a GM essentially. That was Marvin Lewis' doing. And he won some games, won the division 4 times, and put the team in the playoffs 7 times, which wasn't happening here before. A playoff win or two would've been cool, but life's not fair. It's well past time to move on. It was well past time last year. A normal organization would've fired him at least 6 times by now. I'm so tired.

They need new eyes and new voices. Their division isn't getting any worse. The Browns are back, the Ravens are always competent, and the Steelers will never go away. But the team isn't bad as currently constructed. Injuries killed them this season, but they're not a long ways away from competing.

I hope the Browns play this next season when the Steelers come to town. 😂😂😂

I'm just glad they didn't get their wishes . . . even at the expense of my blood pressure going off the charts.

and the Raiders did make Mike Mayock their new GM.

So Mayock is just going to be a glorified scout for Gruden unless Gruden wanted Mayock hired. Might as well have hired JT The Brick instead.

C'mon, you know JT has already been on staff for years.  Mayock does (or did) have more access to more game film than any person without a front office job except for NFL Films' Greg Cosell, and like Cosell, Mayock lives in the Greater Philly, so he was watching all his film at the NFL Films offices.  Gruden was a poor drafter at Tampa in his first time around and when first in Oakland, Al ran the draft.  His best pick is without a doubt Aqib Talib, then Davin Joseph

I just think it’s crazy because Marvin Lewis was basically hired on as the Bucs head coach right after Dungy was fired, and the whole thing fell apart at the very last minute. I shudder to think of how different the future would’ve been had we been stuck with him for the last decade and a half.

:censored:, knowing the Bucs, he would’ve been fired by 2010 and been on his 8th year as Bengals head coach by now anyway.

Mayock has been given the title "Assistant to the Regional Manager" while Gruden drinks out of a coffee mug with the words "that's what she said!" on it.

Among people I'd like to see become Packers HC, Chuck Pagano and Jim Caldwell would not be my choices.  Then again, I'm the guy who's wishing they had the balls to hire Mike Leach, so what do I know? 😛

I don’t even know what they’re doing with him still there. He has gotten nothing done for them, except delaying their return to relevancy.

This is an awesome story about Bears coach Matt Nagy, and how he almost played QB for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles before the NFL called BS on his contract.  Really worth the read.

http://www.philly.com/eagles/matt-nagy-bears-eagles-andy-reid-coach-intern-quarterback-20190102.html

In a nutshell, he was an unpaid intern coach that half the coaches didn't know (fun coincidence - Doug Pederson was an entry-level 'quality control' coach at the time).  Donovan McNabb was the starter and generally didn't play in the last preseason game.  Backup Kevin Kolb was injured and couldn't play.  They couldn't have 3rd string AJ Feeley play the whole game, and they didn't want to sign someone unfamiliar.  So they asked Nagy if he knew any of the plays and if he could throw.  Since he didn't have a coach contract (he was just an unpaid intern) they signed him to play the next night.  The NFL said that since he had a player contract with the AFL, that even though the AFL didn't exist anymore, they didn't want to take a chance.  In reality, they didn't want to set the precedent that teams could 'hide' reserve players on their coaching staff to circumvent the roster limits.

I had thought it was Von Miller. But yeah, the timing of it all was pretty crazy.

No need for 2 Broncos.  The Deer's almost certainly Elway.

Yeah that had me rethink my Von Miller choice, but the glasses and hat had me swayed on Von. Plus, he's been fined for hip thrust dance before and he was on dancing with the stars.
