The state ranks 6th in youth hockey participation and 4th in players on NCAA D1 men’s rosters and yet there is no local team for Illinois kids to play for. It seems to me there’s a first mover advantage to be had here, so if UIUC can’t figure out a way to start an NCAA program, maybe UIC or NIU should consider trying to beat the Illini to the punch. UIC had a program until the mid-90s. I thought it was a bad move to get rid of it considering that program was what made UIC's athletic department different than all others in Illinois. Section30
I think that the Devils could have definitely had one of the better looks in college hockey, just removing the grey from those new unis would have made them so much better. The grey just kills it in IMO. Minnesota Amateur Hockey League MAHL Wiki

UIC announced they were disbanding hockey the same day they introduced Jimmy Collins as their new head basketball coach. They threw all their money at the promise of becoming a big-time mid-major, and it got them a couple of 12 or 13 seeds and zero tourney wins, followed by 15 years of earned obscurity. The Pavilion hasn't had ice in 20 years, and I doubt it has the capacity anymore. DePaul's new graft hole/casino precursor in the South Loop was built without an ice plant or a hockey seating configuration. Welsh-Ryan in Evanston just got a $110 million renovation; no ice. If UIC had held on to hockey a few more years, they could have developed a sustainable niche following as city hockey fans looked for anything that wasn't constantly spitting in their faces like the Blackhawks were at the time. Instead, college hockey's probably dead forever in Chicago. It looks even worse in hindsight because the Wolves ended up doing exactly as you described. But as much as I'd love to rag on them (being a "rival" and all), I find myself rather envious of their facilities. They have one the nicest ballparks in college baseball. They just need a hockey team.

Sodboy13
Some sort of reflective bevel effect in the "M"? That seems unnecessary. And that faux lace-up on the gold jersey makes Adidas' look brilliant by comparison. If you can't make it look good, don't keep trying it! The_Admiral
Maybe some rich donor will make a Northwestern hockey program out of nothing the way the Pegulas did for Penn State and have them play at the Horizon. That's the only path to Chicago college hockey that I can see. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
chcarlson23
Definitely a downgrade... Nothing was really wrong with the previous Gophers set. It was a modern classic in my opinion. The home and road look closer to what the Women's team wears, which is bad, because the women's sweaters are a little too busy. The gold is also a big downgrade from the last gold sweater, even if it is a throwback... "And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." Mingjai
Ignoring the beveled jersey crests, I think the aways are downgrade, because the sleeve/hem stripes don't match the stripes comprising the faux yoke as well. I actually like the gold alternates, though I could do without the gopher shoulder crests, which makes the design a little too busy. I hope the numbers for the golds don't have any white in them. For reference, here's the previous set, though I'm not positive about the gold (you can see the entire U of Minn jersey evolution, including manufacturer, here: https://history.vintagemnhockey.com/page/show/893654-u-of-m-uniform-evolution-1922-2014-). seasaltvanilla
Gophers look more traditional but also less unique. I agree with @Mingjai that the previous set was a modern classic. I would've maybe extended the maroon past the gold stripes to avoid yellow on white but otherwise those were very sharp jerseys. They still look good (unlike Gopher football), but they could look better.

I hate when manufacturers don't let the stripes go all the way around. This is the first time I've seen it on the sides of the jersey, I've only seen it on the sleeves and socks in the past. Hopefully this won't become a "thing" that'll be seen elsewhere. Minnesota Amateur Hockey League MAHL Wiki

A lot of times did it i feel. maybe not a lot, but enough. the only time i've seen it (on the hem) where it didnt bother me at all was the USA hockey jersey from about 2002. But, the gap was much smaller in comparison, and it was also new to me at the time. Loved those uniforms.
