It's the :censored:ing pits. I hate driving through that 405-73-Fairview-to-Harbor confluence.

Yeah, the Carson Chargers of Costa Mesa is the weirdest. It's pretty dumb. Tucked in behind an IKEA and a closed down alternative newspaper, and if it weren't for the football goalposts and the Chargers logo on the building (that they didn't even put up until 2/3 of the way through last regular season), it'd just be another office park building in a swath of them.

(Also, your geography is a little off. The IKEA and Chargers practice facility is on the north side of the 405. The Stater Bros. would be to the south between your old place and the Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex, which the Chargers use for training camp... even though its literally right down the street from the practice facility... 1.7 miles/5 minutes down Fairview... shared between Orange Coast College and Costa Mesa High School... God this Chargers thing is so dumb.)

Wait, is the Chargers practice facility is on the other side of the 405? Why do they use both then? Lol. Even so, that Fashion Square spot is still pretty terrible.

Frankly I can't believe there are people out there who prefer the navy uniforms.

My favorite Chargers uniforms were the 86-87 ones, with a blue darker than their previous royal but lighter than their 1988-present navy. The slightly darker blue matches the jersey and makes the gold pop better than the earlier royal blue while still retaining its saturated blue look compared to the subsequent navy. I also like that the bolts are consistently gold-blue-white on helmet, jersey, pants. The 1985 set--the first year of the slightly darkened blue and white pants--were nice too, but I prefer how the white numbers look with the white sleeve inserts and white pants.

I prefer the powder blue just in aesthetic terms, especially for a southern california team and it's also so much more unique for a football team.

I've always wondered what that is in their shield? Horse, Phoenix, thunder chicken?

It’s a horse.

Yeah, but a thunder chicken would be awesome.

Believe it. As much as I like the original powder blues, and I like them an awful lot, I like the Fouts era Chargers uniforms just a little bit better. If given the choice, I'd put the Chargers back in these and call it a day.

Their set is really good if they just made the powder primary. The navy I like as an alt but not as the main jersey. Just my two cents but I’m sure I’m not the only one

No sir you are not!

Twice a year is frequent enough for the Powder Blues, because the Powder Blues are not good enough to be the Chargers' primaries.?

The Navy over Navy look is the best home look, especially when worn with white socks (the way #28 Melvin Gordon is wearing them below).  I hope they stay with this general scheme when they crash at the Rams' stadium ten times a year (as an Orange County resident, I like to think of the Chargers as being an OC team having to shlep it up to LA County to play their home games, the same way I'm forced to go to LAX if I want to take a direct flight to MKE). ???

The Navy over Navy set provides consistency for the bolt since the bolt is always on a white background (white helmet, white shoulder stripe, white pant stripe).  The same consistency is found in the Color Rush (Royal) set:

Trivial note about the Chargers' Color Rush game last year (which I attended): Melvin Gordon changed his socks at halftime.  The above photo is from the first half, and below is what he wore in the second half:

While I have some minor quibbles with aspects of the Chargers' set (the bolts on the sleeves are infamously backwards ?), my only major change would be to add gold pants to go with the Powder Blue jerseys.  Here is someone else's mock up of what gold pants would look like with the modern bolt on a white stripe, albeit paired with the white jerseys (which I am not inclined to support). ?

I'm totally with you on this one.  I do like the powder blue, and would be fine if they wanted to switch to it, but out of all of their looks, the Fouts sets are 1 and 2 (in any order) in my book.  I'd probably lean toward the yellow-pants version, since the white-pants one is only a facemask away from being the '90s set - which is also very good.

the shield was on the wall in the locker room last year, haven't seen it around this year at camp.

I could be wrong, but the shield is painted on the ground at the Hoag Performance Center, which is their headquarters at "The Hive" commercial office complex in Costa Mesa.  Training camp is elsewhere in town, at the Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex.

Do people ever take it up with Dean Spanos or the Chargers organization? Does Dean or the Chargers management listen?

Preference for the powder blue seems to be pretty widespread among the Charger fanbase.

Apparently the official reasoning is that team pariarch Alex Spanos prefers the navy but I think that's just a cover for the real reason: That if they ever did move to LA they would be able to use them as sort of a brand refresh without changing too much.
