My merger community idea will come later.

But I have to ask. Do Driveball players use padding like gridiron football players? I been confused by this for a good while actually and do they change over time like the helmets?

I know it weird to ask but I wanted to know.

@Matthew24

Helmets in Driveball are identical to American football. Leather helmets were used in the NDA's early days, but were finally outlawed by both the CDA and NDA by 1959. Now, the helmets are now the suspension type with plastic shells.

Attackers, defenders and midfielders use facemasks similar to those used by skill position players in the NFL and AFL. CFL too.

Goalies use masks usually worn by linebackers and linemen.

Shoulder padding for defenders, midfielders and attackers is closer to lacrosse and hockey.

Only the goalies use the bulkier football-like shoulder pads.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the proto-Devils look. Maybe change the black to green?

Grays. Mainly because I love Georgia's uniform and a look like the Generals had would fit in with this time period.

EDIT: The Generals had white outlines. I think I must've smoked myself handicapped in college.

More Rogues ideas. Experimenting with a prototype color scheme. Too early for these colors?

On one hand, powder blue didn't become a major thing until the mid-70s. OTOH, Driveball would want to make enough of a name for itself that they want to get attention for their uniforms. Considering this is basically a New York team, why not powder blue?

google-maps-1938-seal-stadium.png

When the PCL Seals moved into the more spacious Candlestick Park five years ago, their former home, Seals Stadium, sat empty. That is, until Dragons owner Buzz Fitzsimmons bought the dilapidated ballpark.

In October of 1965, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Fitzsimmons is planning to turn the old ballfield into a new, privately financed home for his team, rather than fight with the 49ers and Seals for dates at Candlestick Park. The Niners are expected to move into the Stick should NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle get his way and merge his league with the upstart AFL. Kezar Stadium, the Niners and Dragons' current home could be deemed too small according to early AFL-NFL discussions.

@RightGuard

Now that the sub-forum is going to shut down in a couple of hours, the future of this series is pretty much uncertain.

You have until May 30 to find something to work out. Perhaps a blog with invites for the various posters to keep it going while also reposting the ideas sans-story on the Concepts board?

I could see these leagues heading to other sites, maybe all the same if it comes to that, but I can definitely see people posting the concepts from said other sites, updating people strictly on small updates such as who won championships and expansion teams and team looks changing.

I've decided upon moving it to the Alternate History forums:
