Memphis Grizzlies Unveil New Logos and Uniforms

I said it on the NBA 2018-19 thread and I'll say it here: the franchise really should've changed its name after moving from Vancouver. They're trying to marry the Memphis motif with a grizzly bear name and primary logo. Those are two things that just don't go together.

Memphis Blues would've been so perfect.

(These uniforms are fine. Would like some yellow on the white set, but they're fine.)

...The names below the numbers are, well, to put it simply stupid...

But why is it stupid? Or do you just not like it? Basketball jerseys have less real estate in the upper back above the numbers simply because they are tank tops, but there’s no such issue with the area underneath the number. Actually, this kinda seems like the stupid way to do it, no?

I can't be the only one who realizes the shorts are a reference to the final Vancouver uniform right?

I believe it’s a reference to the Mississippi River running down the west side of the city.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Come on, do you really think the names look good down there? No team should have names below the numbers in the modern NBA.

I think that aspect of the uniform is stupid because it obviously doesn’t look as good as it would with the nameplate above the numbers, yet they rolled with it. I find that stupid.

Not a fan of names UNDER the numbers. They've always looked awkward.

Are armhole piping's just gone from existence on NIke jerseys? Every basketball jersey that misses some sort of piping on the armhole looks unfinished.

The two-tone bear still feels a little awkward since we're used to it in three tones, but the logos are fine.

The jerseys are solid, though I'm not usually drawn to one side paneling.

The Nike trend of single color collars as well as ignoring arm piping is lame. It always makes me think of poor replica jerseys and I wish they'd stop, especially since the primaries clearly need some yellow to give them some life.

The alternate is a solid look and I like the overall design though. Overall, lateral move but I like some of the new elements.

No, you're not the only one. :)

I just noticed for the first time that they slightly changed the collar and shorts design when they moved to Memphis.

These changes was made in their last season at Vancouver when alternate design became primarly:

I"ve been making the point for years that the name should go below the number on basketball jerseys.  It makes so much sense.  The only reason it might look bad is that people aren't used to it.

You use phrases like "obviously doesn't look as good", which is "obviously wrong", because some people think it not only looks as good, but even better.

Why did they keep their color scheme? IMO it's currently the worst in the NBA. Be the NBA team to own brown Memphis!

Lol, not a chance brown ever happens considering the EdEx connection.

Theyre trying to have a uniform that represents the location (sorta) while having a name/logo that’s totally different.

A better solution would be to change the name altogether.

While led I think brown could work for someone, it doesn’t work at all if they’re trying to evoke images of neon signs and Beale street

Your right,  this is a place where I can express my opinion. My view on the names are a complete 180 from your views. Now if someone asks why I have this opinion, I’ll tell em how I SEE it. And I might think there are some “obvious” things that could be much better.

My Opinion: These uniforms aren’t very good
