2019 MLB Changes

I agree.  The Cubs are good enough to probably keep going as they are, but if they aim higher they are just a couple tweaks shy of a truly timeless set.

General observation, anyone think the Cubs would look good with red numbers on the back of their home jerseys kinda like their road jerseys?

When I see their uniforms I think of them as a blue with red team but from behind they seem like just a blue team, or kinda "too blue" like the Dodgers or Royals for example.

I know the Cubs have the red outline on the numbers and name but it's too subtle for me. A touch more red on the back would look nice I think.

Blue numbers are better. I wouldn't mind if they lost the outlines, but I'm not upset they have them either.

I'm really fond of the Cubs' number font, though -- it's a bit dated but also kinda charming, unusual, and somehow feels very Chicago.

The Cubs' color balance is pretty perfect as it is, and their number font is recognizable at a distance without being superfluous.  Frankly, any change to their uniforms at this point would just be change for the sake of change.  Leave 'em alone.

If the Cubs dropped the blue alt, they’d be pretty close to perfect.

A blue alt for the Cubs is fine, they just need use the proper logo:

Probably overheard two old guys saying it in the row behind him at a Tigers game one random day in mid May.

Wow.  Really? Not called for. There was a lot of social media and newspaper responses in the negative. But maybe I just heard 2 old guys. Seriously, that is a nasty response and one I didn’t deserve.

No, that's too much red! Even on the roads, that's too much red. The Cubs should always be heavy on royal blue. Red names and numbers are good on a blue jersey but that's it.

Yeah, "somehow Chicago" is how I feel about the Cubs' old use of slab-serif, too:

It reminds me of signage and design that lingered into the early-'90s Chicagoland of my youth, I guess. A year or two ago I noticed a building across from Ogilvie Station had its address written in the Cubs' numbers. I thought that was neat, wasn't sure whether it was overtly a Cubs tribute or what.

Eh, I think the Cubs' uniforms peaked in the 1930s.

That's damn near perfect.  Even the numbers are an improvement: simple, elegant, yet distinctive.

Even their road jerseys were better.  I really hate the sort-of-arced-sort-of-arched "CHICAGO" mark they use today.  9xcewwtm7ojxbg2xb9n9ue9se.png

Pick a style and run with it, you monsters.

But nothing can improve upon the 1937 beauties:

I’m a 1959-68 guy for the Cubs’ uniforms (especially the road).

Add red red outlines to the home numbers and a different bear patch and there you go!

This perfectly matches my ideal Cubs look. Although at this point they shouldn't drop the pinstripes.

Look how beautiful that number font is without any outlines. I know the phrase "pops" is frowned upon but it really describes the royal blue in those photos.

The current road wordmark is atrocious. It's so easy to use a simple arched mark in a classic font and yet they totally botched it.

Arch the word mark, or arc it.  Either one is a legitimate choice.

But together?  Ugh.  What a mess.

I would love to see the alternative cap come back for the road uniforms only.

I legit miss this cap.

Hate that whole uniform: the separation of blue and red, the awful arced/arched city script, the white outlines on grey, that stupid dumpster bear, and the red bill. Royal blue crown/red bill would be good for the Rangers, but not the Cubs. Teams should only have one hat.

Overwhelmingly the best script the Cubs could wear on the road, not sure what this 1937 curved underline business is all about.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand all the hate for the current walking Cubbie Bear. I think it’s not only great, but it’s also the best logo the team has ever had by a WIDE margin. Some of those bear over a C logos they’ve had over the years are TRASH.

I don't understand that either.

Granted, I actually like the Cubs blue alternates too.

Also, it actually looks like a bear.

Wasn't trying to be nasty... this is a common way that people seem to think they know what the general public believes and I was trying to be funny in general but I see how answering you directly came off rude.

I apologize.

Thank you.  It is much appreciated.

With that said, back to the topic...
