8993 75 Posted September 21, 2018 After the bout of bad press over the past year, Papa John's is removing the apostrophe and will now be known as... Papa Johns. They have released their new logo, which will go live in early 2019, as it is still pending trademark rights. As with all other logos lately, we are dropping all serifs to go for a new sans serif and minimalistic look. All imagery of Papa John himself has already been removed from the company, as well. We all knew a new logo had to be in the works. Thoughts? New: Old:

MC Buffalo 89 Posted September 21, 2018 I can't say I have ever seen an 'S replaced with an S. is this a normal excepted substitution to show possession or ownership? Well either way. Thumbs Down. Not an improvement. The Previous isn't great, but new one isn't better.
DC in Da House w/o a Doubt 3,653 Posted September 21, 2018 could this be a glimpse of what the Citi Field 10 year Anniversary logo will look like?
agentrygraphics 390 Posted September 21, 2018 Well, on the bright side at least it doesn't read "Pizza Papa John's" anymore.

New: Old: Weird that they kept the slogan so prominent, or that they even kept it at all, if they're trying to wipe away any trace of their founder.

henburg 1,652 Posted September 21, 2018 A rebrand like this begs the question of what is worse- A terrible logo that is unique OR A competent logo that is very dull A rebrand is a great idea for them right now, but this solution isn't ideal to say the least.
Ferdinand Cesarano 4,591 Posted September 21, 2018 The new logo is a bit less bad than the old one. But it is still bad. More important, this brand is skunked. This isn't like Subway, whose bad publicity came from a paid spokeman. This is the founder; even though John is gone from Papa John's, the chain continues to carry his name and thereby invoke him. This company cannot escape this; therefore the thing to do is to rebrand. And I mean that in the true sense of the word, which is to erect an entirely new brand, not in the newer watered-down meaning of "change the logo". Side note: 19 minutes ago, henburg said: A rebrand like this begs the question of what is worse... It raises the question. http://begthequestion.info/
Pengin. 213 Posted September 22, 2018 Needed a new identity and they went too safe.
KDubK414 220 Posted September 22, 2018 A name change would have probably been the best route. The branding has already been tarnished, and the John should have been dropped. Maybe just shorten to Papa's Pizza and create some kind of Mario/Chef Boyardee mascot as Papa and then a new logo.

Kaz 1,370 Posted September 24, 2018 I’ve already forgotten what the whole controversy was about, so I’m not sure how necessary this rebrand is. That being said, looks like they went from generic and forgettable to also generic and forgettable.
