A 3 run HR that barely cleared the wall to cap off an inning that started with a bizarre bounce and a weird double.

This Red Sox team has caught EVERY break humanly possible.

In theory they’ll start getting bad breaks.

The Dodgers are going to need hero starts from Ryu and Hill and hope one of the other Boston starters falls apart. That's the hole you're in when your best starter only goes 4 innings. Price is basically pitching with house money now since everyone expects him to lose this start anyway.

LA still has a shot if they can get to the games in the hands of Boston's bullpen, but it's not a good start when Kershaw does that.

In fairness Sale was equally rocky so it's not like Kershaw was the loser of a 7-1 blowout.

I have hope against Price considering his one fluke performance was in the climate controlled confines of Minute Maid Park with a team on the brink.  Ryu had considerable remorse for his NLCS Game 6 showing so he's due for a bounce back.

Sale's team won the game, though. The Dodgers blew their best bullet on an L and I felt like they needed both of the Kershaw starts to be solid 7 inning (at least) W's for them to have a chance. It means their margin of error just got considerably thinner.

Found the manager who thinks it's a good idea to have a LHP face a RHB at Fenway than the other way around if given the choice.

Well done, Dave. You know you don't get a ring from the Red Sox if they win the World Series this time around, right?

Everyone seems to forget that Roberts made the pitching substitution first. He thought Wood was going to face Devers, who Cora had started against a lefty because he is much better at hitting than Nunez. It was only after the pitching change that Cora put arguably his worst hitter in to face the lefty. It was a bold move that paid off.

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

So much for not watching the World Series.

That's hardly an unusual tactic. Cora would've had no reason to pinch hit a RHB for Devers if a righty was in the game. So of course Cora made his decision in response to the pitcher being brought in.

Why was it a bad idea? Nunez has been used as the "defensive" third baseman of the two*, so Nunez was going to come into the game, very likely, in the next inning anyway because Devers would have just batted. So if the platoon matchup was in question, might as well just get a jump on it right then and there and see what happens. Once a pitcher enters a game, they must face at least one batter so Wood was in it for the entirety of that AB once that change was made. It was a move anyone watching could have foreseen coming or at least been wary of the possibility of.

But it also ignores the other part of the equation - Baez had come into the game and was throwing fire. Two strikeouts, swinging, on fastballs. One of those strikeouts was against a LHB. He was electric. What's the old axiom that old-school baseball people especially love to mention sometimes? That, the more pitchers you use in a game, the more likely you are to run into somebody who doesn't have "it". So, when I was watching that game, what I'm seeing is a righty firing 97 mph and getting results on the two batters he faced. I'm seeing a righty at Fenway Park who, yes, will face a LHB due up next, but if you're going to be at the platoon disadvantage at Fenway, you'd rather it be a RHP facing a LHB anyway because Fenway has always played more difficult to left-handed hitters. I don't see why I'm bringing in a lefty to face a prospective right-handed pinch hitter and tossing that platoon advantage away.

Look, I can't speak for other people when it comes to second-guessing, but I try to have a sense of ethics about it. When I was watching the game, the moment I saw that pitching change, I thought "why?" because it didn't make sense to me. It seemed like managing by what the numbers were telling Roberts to do, paying zero attention to what was happening right in front of him on the field. We saw how that subsequent pitching change went. If I don't have an opinion about a managerial/coaching decision, and it backfires, then I have no room to talk. When I do and it backfires? I reserve my rights on that one.

I'm not watching tonight's game live, btw. No idea what's happening right now; don't wanna know. I'll watch it soon enough. I can't be bothered to spend 3.5 hours of my time expressing virulent hatred of the Red Sox when I can condense that down to one hour later tonight or tomorrow morning.

*something that, as someone who remembers Nunez and his completely erratic throwing arm from his days with the Yankees, is just a hysterical idea, at least it was until the final out of this year's ALDS

No one does right now anyway.

Ryan Madson is almost always my favorite player the other team has.

Dodgers look absolutely toast.

It would be such a joy to watch the Dodgers lose back-to-back World Series. Keep on keepin' on Red Sox.

And yet somehow you're OK with the spoiled Boston fanbase getting to celebrate for the billionth time.

Didn’t you get a mod warning for this kind of post?

Also, aren’t you Yankees’ fans happy? Your cheering of David Price led to him getting his mojo back in the playoffs.

I'm a San Francisco Giants fan. Do the math.

I have to keep explaining this to people and it’s getting kind of annoying. “How could you want Boston?! They’re fans suck! They have SO many titles! LA is in Cali, dude! Root for the home state!”

All of this is true, no doubt about that. But the Dodgers are legit my sports ISIS. I shouldn’t have to keep explaining/justifying this as a Giants fan.

I know manager of the year is a pointless award, and I generally prefer to go to the "do more with less" types -- Bob Melvin had my nonexistent vote -- but now I'm thinking Alex Cora has to get it if only because I've never seen a rookie manager bat 1.000 on "holy :censored:, I can't believe he did that" moments. I look forward to Mookie Betts playing second in LA and making every single play spectacularly.

Can't believe the bullpen is holding up, though I guess Eovaldi has helped and that's not happening in the next three games. David Price has always been kind of a putz but his redemption arc this postseason is warming my heart.
