If they played next season in London, would the Raiders organization need to move to the UK as well? Would they need to get work visas for every employee? And I can’t see the players ever agreeing to play a full season in the UK on such short notice when UK income taxes are so much higher. IMO any team playing more than a couple of games in London is impossible unless it’s planned years in advance, it’s not something you can make up as you go

A chance to find out all the specifics involved in the logistics of operating a franchise there, without making a permanent commitment to do so.

 

If not for the Bills experiments a while back, I'd be suggesting Toronto instead of London, but if Toronto's not going to back a team from Buffalo they're sure not gonna pony up NFL prices to watch a vagabond Raiders team play 8 home dates at SkyDome.

I wont pretend to know the rules/regs here, but the Jags are already playing 3 games, so it’s not like the league isn’t already aware of the nuances. 

 

They can work something out with the PA to compensate the players for the stress of the Travel and any financial losses.

Honestly if this lawsuit comes to fruition and the Raiders do leave early I think Sam Boyd's the only place that makes sense - anywhere else would be a disaster of a season, and if all of that lines up I honestly think the NFL will cave and just let them play there, despite all of its issues.

Although as I say that, a lame-duck year in San Diego like Cosmic suggested would be a disaster that'd be worth it just for the image of the Chargers having to return over the bridge they detonated 2 years ago...

Two points I'd like to make about the bold part.

 

1. The fact that collective bargaining agreements haven't never contended with the inequity of taxes on income and in terms of that being a deciding factor where millionaires choose to sign is an issue. Many said that heading to Florida was an original reason for LeBron to go to Miami and form the super-team there. But, then again, California is his destination this time. So, at some point it doesn't matter. But, some type of modifier to raise or lower pay rates by economic taxation policies of each team would level the playing field and remove that from the potential argument for or against a destination to sign.

 

2. As 'performers', players pay income tax where their performance takes place. Not where they live. So, the increase in tax wouldn't be that noticeable. At least half their games aren't at their home venue (though a California baseball player might feel the pinch with interleague play means dozens of games in state).

I'll add my own piece.  It will sound very crackpottish (if I may invent a word), but I'm going to toss it out there anyway.

 

My son is good friends with John Harbaugh's daughter.  She has occasionally tossed him info before it breaks and has always been pretty reliable/accurate.  She told him last night that her "sources" say the Jags plan to move to London within the next 2-3 years.

I have no particular affinity for North Florida or the Jaguars, but I would still hate to see this happen. It's almost worse than a full relocation in some respects: we're 50-percent here because for tax purposes we have to be. I wish the NFL would give up on this London pipe dream.
