USL New Mexico is... New Mexico United

I can appreciate the small details like the four stripes representing the four bars of the state flag, but I'm incredibly disappointed by the lack of creative design throughout. There's no accent colors, no unique characteristics. If you took away 'New Mexico' this could be the logo for any soccer team anywhere.

If it were gold and red, the state flag homage would be more quickly recognizable and give the crest some strength. As it is in black though, it takes a bit to “get it”. And when you do, it just leaves you wondering why the zia symbol isn’t red to begin with and it just seems disappointing that something that should’ve been so easy was not executed as well as it should’ve been.

This, for sure.

We also need about a 10 or 20 year ban on new US soccer teams using “United”.

Way too reminiscent of the Columbus Crew. Darn shame, as they used very unique, NM-centric colors leading up to this logo. And it's not like it would take much effort to make it more New Mexican:

Yep, this is exactly what I was talking about. These changes take it from ambiguously sorta-kinda-maybe New Mexican to clearly and definitively New Mexican. Huge, huge improvements. It’s really too bad the original just wasn’t taken far enough.

This is so much better. It also works into the club's branding message as being representative of all of New Mexico. This seems like a real misstep.

get the :censored: right out of here!! god, these things somehow get worse over time. in no way are designers/creative teams involved in this copywriting. find me a single designer who ever selected a tall, out of the box sans serif because “it represents the strength of the city”. whoever wrote that likely wrote that garbage headline as well. its actually a really nice crest but this makes it hard to take seriously. theres no need for this nonsense

i do like that reworked version but wouldnt say its actually a better logo. using familiar iconography and colors is only a starting point. whats actually being communicated here? theres no message and the elements are only decorative. which shows how empty the original design is. both shields are nicely crafted but theres nothing under the surface. the problem with decorating a logo in elements of good flags is those elements are used everywhere in the state and this logo just becomes part of the noise. you combat that with a good idea or something memorable that cuts through and this logo doesnt just doesnt have it

The only message should be “a soccer team from New Mexico.”

The revised version does that better than the one they went with.
