Quillz
Might have been asked before... But I don't think it's happened. I think the closest might have been Philadelphia. 1980 had the Phillies in the World Series (beat the Royals), the 76ers in the NBA Finals (lost to the Lakers), the Eagles in the Super Bowl (lost to the Raiders), and the Flyers in the Stanley Cup (lost to the Islanders). The only issue here is "year" vs. "season." The 76ers and Flyers appeared in the Finals of the 1979-80 seasons, while the Eagles appeared in the Super Bowl of the 1980-81 season. I don't think any city has ever come this close. 1988 had Los Angeles win basketball and baseball championships, which also happened again in 2002 (if you count the Angels as a metropolitan area team). New York City had the Yanks and Mets meet in the World Series and the Giants played in the 2000-01 Super Bowl (losing to the Ravens).
4_tattoos
Didn't the Patriots and Red Sox both win a championship in 2004? Hotter Than July > Thriller

The 2005 Super Bowl for the 2004 season, right? Closer for Boston was Red Sox in October 2007, followed by Celtics in June 2008 ... and one David Tyree away from the Patriots in the middle of the two. Wings
If you count metro areas then the Bay Area in 1989. A's won the "Quake Series" over the Giants and the 49ers won the Super Bowl in January 1990 (89 season).
UnclearInitial
1927-28 for New York is probably the closest. Yankees won both the 1927 and 1928 World Series, the Giants were the 1927 NFL Champions and the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in April 1928
Brian in Boston
Quote 1927-28 for New York is probably the closest. Yankees won both the 1927 and 1928 World Series, the Giants were the 1927 NFL Champions and the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in April 1928 The MLB, NFL, and NHL franchises of Detroit equalled that feat eight seasons later. The Detroit Tigers won the 1935 World Series, the Detroit Lions won the 1935 NFL Championship, and the Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup following the 1935-36 NHL season. Meant the 2003 NFL Season (Super Bowl played in 2004), 2004 MLB season and the 2004 NFL season (although that SB was played in 2005). Two championships won in the proper year 2004, and two championship in each league's 2004 season. Hotter Than July > Thriller

Realized I naively forgot about the mighty New England Revolution’s triumph in the 2008 SuperLiga.
