Yeah, the overall design is still pretty bad (I hate the lean on the M, seems so arbitrary), but the addition of more blue to the cap logo is a massive improvement over what they have right now. I kind of wish the Marlin didn't look like it swam through an oil slick, but perhaps it needs to be mostly black to ensure differentiation from a solid blue M. I feel like the Marlin could use some fine tuning (in lieu of a total redesign), but giving it an eye would be necessary at the very least for me. MattMill
Wow. What a mess. I was watching some highlights of tonight's game. Open dome Night game Black jerseys End result? Absolutely the worst jerseys I have ever seen in action in MLB. Close up, it's a tad better Everyday situations are a mess I think I'm done with the marlins for now. MattMill
At least we'll know the plain black jerseyied team is the marlins. So they're unique in that way. The numbers and wordmark have a certain cheap sheen to them too. Maybe all MLB jerseys are that way. But it's not helping their cause. I remember the days we had our swingman cheapy replica jerseys. And then the real deal. These black Marlins are not looking too well in any condition. They're better off doing a hollow outline stitching, much like the on field hat. And when I say worst, I mean in a regular fan or umpire viewing point of view. Legible letters/wordmark are at the bare bones of requirements. If you can't get that right, you jump to the top of the worst list.
Around the Horn
Yeah they need to switch to blue letters... I've been convinced.

FinsUp1214
That’s horrible. Nothing on that jersey is legible. I’d like to believe they considered legibility when designing and producing it, but it really doesn’t seem like it was thought through hard enough. How that jersey got approved is absolutely beyond me.

It's odd because I hated the Loria set but it was far superior
AstroCree
Nothing pops. It has potential but they focused too much on the black. Everything blends in together. Thank god there’s no 5 year rule in MLB. They can simply make tweaks to enhance the set.

I'd be shocked if they implement changes by 2020, but I'd certainly hope they make some drastic (not tweaks, not necessarily another rebrand) changes before 2021, when the team could actually be pretty respectable on-field. I wouldn't say that Marlins fans have rejected the rebrand. Reactions seemed mixed for the most part. I feel like when the logo was first leaked (in not so great quality and out of context, admittedly), it was almost universally panned. However, once people realized the leak was real, some of them warmed up to it. I do sense that even those who came around to liking the design would welcome most, if not all, of the tweaks proposed by the members here. I am really curious as to what their focus group conversations were like.
FiddySicks
I almost feel like the league is going to step in at some point and do something about this. Not because the look is bad and they want it changed, but because it’s gotta be basically impossible for announcers and scorekeepers to read the numbers on that black set. It makes you wonder if MLB had any reservations or concerns during the approval process. I can't think of another regular season jersey from any era that possesses such a stark black on black look. I suppose it's at least unique in that respect. I would be surprised if it didn't raise someone's eyebrow.
jp1409
I saw these live in Atlanta last week in a night game. They're not good at all under the sun and neither are under the lights. They might be a tad better in a dome situation with ideal lightning but honestly they really feel like plain black jerseys from a short distance. MattMill
Here's a number and name view from a relatively zoomed in perspective Umps can probably see it fine. And the commentators have enough close up angles to get an idea. Names aren't a requirement either. ROJAS is so jumbled, it might as well be blank. I'm telling you, they're playing with some odd materials. They have a weird sheen to them, both the letters, and a lesser extent, the numbers. They add to the legibility issues. The_Admiral
I've said it once and I'll say it again: as much as I disliked this set from the launch, I dislike it more and more the more I see of it. The bad logos and Uncanny Valley Sans scripts are bad enough, but as sports team uniforms, they simply do not function. Unacceptable. Back to the drawing board. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
