But yet in another thread, when it was pointed out that the Jets' Instagram account sought feedback on the black practice jerseys and it came back mostly negative, you gave that post a "Like".

3.1 million people follow the Heat's Instagram account alone. The widest range of people are on social media today. All kinds. Not just a certain type like you're trying to imply. It's not limited like how it was 15-20 years ago.

You picked a great example of the very phenomenon.

Agreement with or approval of a sentiment doesn’t imply that I think the sentiment is particularly widespread. That’s another mistake, and a perfect illustration of how social media numbers (in this case, the “like” of a post) are misleading and easily misconstrued.

Another, similar, error is thinking that the 3.1 million people following the Heat’s Instagram are fans of the Heat. Many are, to be sure, but others are professions in either sport or design or releated fields, fans of other teams who want updates, people who signed up as part of a promotional campaign, and Russian bots.  Nobody gives a :censored: what the Russian bots think about the Vice uniforms, yet lumping all 3.1 million into one single bucket would give them equal weight with the actual fans.

Which is why social media resonance is interesting but not necessarily illustrative of anything beyond the social media itself.

The flaw of Wikipedia is incorrect facts. Facts and opinions are two different things.

Yes I know that.

But the method of acquiring both the facts and the opinions here are the same: surveying large groups of people.

This really has nothing to do with Wikipedia. This was me bringing up a joke that if applied to social media is just as applicable...

"Social media is the best thing in the world. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information."

That right there is a fallacy and that is what I meant.

And yet when some random poster on here says things like "I talked to a buncha real deal fans, and none of them likes those colors!!!" you automatically go with it

What on Earth are you talking about?

I think you ought to focus less on trying to catch posters in some bizarre “gotcha” and more on developing a coherent argument.  Because you haven’t come across one yet. 😛

Huh? I'm sure I've agreed with people before but I've never defined the total opinions of a fan base based on one random poster's comments. If anything I'm more inclined to disagree with anyone who sounds like they're speaking for an entire fanbase.

I think you and I are talking about two different things.  I think you can draw a distinction between fan apparel and team uniforms.  I’m speaking specifically about the way the players on the court are dressed and you’ve illustrated the way fans have taken to buying merchendise for themselves.  These aren’t the same things.

BFBS gets thrown around on these boards a lot.  Before black uniforms became more pervasive  on the field of play it had a presence in merchandising in the early 90s.  I could be wrong but this could have been as a result of big sales for Raiders and White Sox apparel.  Black hats and t shirts became available for all teams and people bought them.  Once that color was introduced into players uniforms opinion divided.

This is where I think our conversation is at the moment.  Sure fans like the shirts.  Also if they know the team is wearing it that day they’ll wear the Vice shirts.  (Maybe we should check back later this year once they go back to their regular uniforms and court to see how the crowd is dressed then).  However what I’m relaying in my post is that many long time fans of the team (people that were watching from day one) would prefer to see the players wearing red and black on the regular

As a diehard heat fan there is no doubt that the vice apparel and jerseys are the most popular thing that the heat have ever had or come out with. Iv read that the jerseys sold more than all the other city uniforms combined last year. Most heat games iv been too this year the vice is EVERYWHERE as far as jerseys and shirts go. Even hats. Iv rarley seen the normal black white red gear. I do agree tho with you saying i prefer the normal red black white. Vice is cool here and there but full time would be overkill imo

Can someone post the Marlins ST hat again? It had the full body marlin without baseball stitches, right?...was the crown blue or black?

Granted, I think we'll see all the ST hats next week...

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Oof, I know they are trying to create a sense of three dimensions, but I do not like the way that the top half of the fish has raised embroidery while the bottom half is virtually flat. I'm sure many of you won't mind it, but it seems unnecessary to me.

Not to defend it but I think the explanation is that it's meant to have the M "between" the two layers of the fish. Because when you see it on the regular cap logo it's this way but the M is wedged between the fish.

I haven't seen the regular cap up close, but surely they could have redesigned the stitching for the BP cap, no?

One of my fears with the black on back color scheme was that certain elements would be left flat.

That still suffers from the same flaws the primary gear suffers from. Namely the red and blue won’t pop nearly enough.

As an aside? The half 3D logo looks ridiculous.

I think this is the reason.  Also none of the M is raised. (You and I have discussed this already but for the benefit of readers here....). In fact the black on the inside of the M isn’t embroidered at all.  The 3930 has embroidery and I think it’s nicer than the authentic on field version.

The stitching choices on the fish don’t bother me

I disagree. That’s the most egregiously cheap looking part of that cap if you ask me. I actually sent the one I ordered back in part because of how bad all that negative space looked.

I don't like the sound of this. Does anyone have a close up photo of the on-field version?

If you still want the cap and don't need 5950 then the 3930 is for you.
