Watch the Nats swoop in with one last offer to Harper (Boras is probably anticipating this) and he'll end up staying with them.

If you're the Nationals, I'm not sure how you explain to your fanbase that you let the face of your franchise, and likely the first player to sport that cap in the HOF walk over money.  I'm assuming they're in decent financial shape, considering the market and stadium situation, but maybe they're not a "high revenue" team?  One of those "small market in a big market" teams?

I'm also tired about hearing about Boras.  It's the player - it's all on the player.  Boras might be telling him "just another week Bryce... trust me, they'll come crawling back" but at the end of the day it's on the player to say "bro, I just want to play, and $301M works for me."  I think people forget who works for who.

I remember being able to hear a Padre game up here in Northern CA before at night. Guess that’s makes sense then.

Back in the 90s, I was briefly able to hear a Spurs broadcast, and on another night, a Cavs game.  I live south of Milwaukee, and neither game involved the Bucks.  I was just a kid messing around with his radio on a random night.

Good lord.

Im just glad it’s finally over.

Wow no opt outs?  If that's true good luck with that one Philly.

Whats more surprising is that HE has no opt outs. Usually they get player-only opt outs after a few years so they can renegotiate for more if the environment changes.

Im ok with this because at the end he’ll still only be 39 and likely still productive. There’s also talk that he isn’t committed to playing that long and a few years at the end we’re just to lower the annual average so they can pursue other expensive guys.

Also - his contract goes until 2031.  Bobby Bonilla will still be collecting checks for another 4 years.

Also, all that’s being talked about now is Trout.

13 years is a long long time.

13 years ago I was still in high school.

13 years ago I was 1 year old.

Oy.

Thirteen years ago I was in the same job and in the same apartment.  I still consider myself to be a "new" fan of soccer; 13 years ago I was in my third year of watching the sport.

13-year, $330M deal for Harper

Woof.

I wouldn’t make this deal, but it’s not the worst contract I’ve ever seen.

The back end of the deal isn’t going to be that bad even assuming worst case scenario. He’ll be making less money at the end than Ryan Howard was in 2016.

The Phillies will most likely move him before the his contract is up. If they have to go into a rebuild 5+ years from now, he may make for an attractive trade piece.

No matter what this won’t and can’t be another Albert Pujols type deal.
