FiddySicks
Cute renderings (Aww, and they wanna add in a Dopplemayr gondola. How ski-resort-y and adorable!), but it’s never going to actually happen. How do they plan on actually paying for it? The owners are just as “broke” for this rendering as they were for the last 500 they’ve released. I’ll believe the A’s are getting a new stadium in Oakland the minute I’m sitting in a seat watching a game. DEAD!
The chances of this ballpark being built is about as likely as the A's making the 2023 World Series. I will also bet that kid has no idea who Dave Stewart is. I saw, I came, I left.

SFGiants58
I get the cynicism, but I have a bit more confidence with this (as has been stated publicly) privately-funded plan. They’ve been back-and-forth on the Howard Terminal site, but it’s the one new site that has the least in the way of it (the Laney site would be a mess for everybody involved, especially the college’s residents). FiddySicks
Have they actually released a plan showing how it’s going to be privately financed, though? Because they’ve said that same thing four or five stadium renderings ago, too. Cisco Field, I believe, was supposed to be “privately financed” as well. One of the things that killed that plan is that when the funding was actually discussed, it was shown to be decidedly *not* privately financed. I also seem to remember a decent bit of “Ooh well we WOULD build a privately funded park in San Jose, but you know. Giants.” On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)

Ask the fans in Kansas City, Houston, and the north side of Chicago how that strategy worked out for them recently.

Well, except for Kansas City missing the playoffs for 29 years, the Astros’ long-standing competitive problems, and the Cubs not having been to the World Series since 1945. That’s a lot of saddling. Would you rather develop a winner or buy high-end talent to barely float over .500? It’ll be worth the wait. You're ruining the narrative I'm trying to create here with your facts. Anyhow... I would rather see them buy high end talent for them to win NOW. Not to be at the .500 mark... not to kick the can for two to three years only to see this plan possibly blow up in their faces... I want them to win NOW. dont care
It’s still a good trade for them, those prospects have a 75% chance of being real legitimate starters and will help the team for the next 10 years at least, cano isn’t the same as he was in NY and has been dropping off every year. You need to get rid of that big contract to Be able to afford more talent
The_Admiral
One of the other downsides to the Brewers not winning the World Series (besides it generally being kinda cool for non-annoying Brewers fans) was that they couldn't prove there's a third way to a world championship between Tank For Years and Have Infinite Money, with the former becoming just as deleterious to baseball as the latter has been. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

That's really exciting! 1 Thanks although the situation is not going to work out with this organization, I will continue to try with others. The one silver lining in it is that my wife is very happy about not having to up and move to the city of the team who was interviewing me. In the meantime, I'm still doing writing (had an article posted on Fangraphs yesterday) and still plugging away with my research and continuing to apply for positions. A few people have asked me to equate it to something and honestly its a lot like being drafted. You have almost no say in which team you actually go to. Its just whoever is hiring. If that can be your favorite team, great, but hardly anyone gets that option. Also if you're someone with the mentality of "what good is Sabermetrics for" you won't even get past the initial questions. The test I was given to do took me six hours to complete and that's with me knowing what I'm doing both from a programming and a baseball knowledge perspective. The test was like baking a turkey in the sense that if it took you less than three hours to complete it, you didn't do it right. Any point or conclusion you draw needs to be backed up by data, or you have no argument.
