So I figured out in the past few years that if you want a US made on field cap, you pretty much have to order it the minute that they’re released, as the first run is almost always US made on new caps. They do this to get product out quicker after a release before they get bulk orders coming from China. I ordered the new Marlins cap pretty much the minute it was released for this very reason. I just got it today and it’s Chinese made garbage. That’s an AWFUL sign. It’s already repackaged and in the mail to be sent back.

:censored: man, this SUCKS.

I did the same thing with the Cleveland Indians new home cap. It arrived today and was made in China. Lucky for me it was actually sized correctly and fits. It's a sad day when you can't get an on field cap made in the USA.

I'm convinced that the days of the MUSA are essentially over, in the same way, the days of being able to buy a Canadian made authentic NHL jersey are.  I too received my new Marlins cap which I ordered as soon as it was released.  It was a Chinese made one, I was at least hoping for MUSA with imported materials.  At least it doesn't have the issues common with Chinese made, even fits well and doesn't mushroom or have the ridiculous box crown, and it's going to be on my display rack I'll probably keep it.  I can say that because of the lack of MUSA on field 59-50's and the total lack of quality control I'm going to be spending far less on New Era products from here on out.

The only company I can think of that cared less about quality control than New Era was Yugo (a crappy 80's car company.)  It's almost like New Era wears their lack of quality control as a badge of honor.

They’re basically Drowning Mona but instead of Bette Middler in the leading role, it’s me getting strangled by a Bangladeshi 59Fifty😵

I'm not a cap collector so I'm genuinely curious...was there ever a period when New Era had decent quality control?

I wanted to pick up a Marlins 25th anniversary cap and I was aghast over how defective the 30 or so I sorted through were.

I also have never forgiven them for striking a deal to include their logo on field worn caps, but I suppose MLB is more to blame for that one.

They've always had issues since I've been collecting, which goes back to the early 2000s. However, their caps used to be much better quality and a lot of the issues regarding sizing could easily be fixed once a cap was broken in, especially back in the wool cap days.

The Marlins 25th hat suffered from them running out of materials after the first batch. The second batch was wool and a darker teal and sold as polyester.

If you canfind a lighter color 25th anniversary cap, its almost like it was made on another planet. The darker wool Marlins one feels like a cheap stadium giveaway.

New Era made GREAT caps from 2007-2012. Then they started pushing the chinese, bangledesh, vietnamese stuff on the consumers and it was over with.

It used to be only the Red, Pirates, Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox- all caps every champs stocks. Now its everything and its depressing.

New Era is like a lot of big companies in this country. There was just a point (in their case, somewhat recently) where they stopped caring to provide their consumers with the product they prided themselves on for so long because it didn’t absolutey maximize profits. It’s a :censored:ing disgrace, but that’s basically what business in this country is now.

So are the better quality 25th anniversary caps being sold online anywhere right now?

The ones I saw were sold at Marlins Park during the anniversary weekend in June.

You're better off hunting one down locally at a lids. They all have the same sku number so its a crapshoot which one youll get.

I love wool cause I'm from the old skool, and the Marlins wool version as far as color is closer to the original teal than the polyester. Also love the way it fits and the crown isn't as high and boxy as the polyester counterpart.

Marlins park was the only place  all the sizes were available in Poly and not wool

Yes, just a few missing sizes missing from the first batch were done in wool.

Side by side with an original, the teal is closer to the original than the poly version

That’s because the “Poly” they used on that second batch was just teal colored wool they had sitting around in Derby since the team first used those caps. They had a metric :censored: ton of it, and they knew they were going to have to get that cleared out of stock (not saying the recent closure was part of that logic, but I’m not saying it wasn’t, either), so they just flat out lied about what kind of material they used.

Very typical New Era garbage, really.

My 2018 Dodgers World Series on the field hat was american made which was very surprising.  The whole batch in the Tucson Mall for the Dodgers was all the same.  On the other hand the 2018 Red Sox World series on he field hats were all Chinese made.  My spouse got the crappier quality since she is a Red Sox fan LOL

Off the top of my head, I've never had a problem with American made 5950's. I've had a couple polyester that were made in China that were too small, despite you know, supposedly being the same size (and I'm a size 8 so I don't have the wiggle room).

However, I recently ordered a wool 5950 and when I got it, the tag said made in China and I was worried it was going to be a waste of money because it wasn't going to fit and it's a hat I really wanted to wear, but it probably fits the best out of all the current hats I have. Maybe it's something to do with it being wool or it's just luck of the draw.
