They actually did wear it on their own earlier this season. They could've just ditched it like the Raiders did but they're sticking by it for some reason.

But the Raiders DID wear the CR jersey, but they wore Silver pants rather than White to make it into a 1964 throwback, which had the Silver numbers, but the current logo.

So thier solution was to switch to a dolphin that basically looks like it’s about to do this?

I’m sure there’s some kind of explaination as to why the Dolphin is in that particular position against the sun, but regardless of what that is, the honest truth is within a second of seeing the current logo for the very first time, I saw a belly flop, and it’s all I can see ever since. I’m sure their intent was to make it look more graceful than the throwback’s jump but it honestly looks just the opposite to me. It frankly looks silly and hilarious because I can’t get my first impression out of my head, and I’ve never been able to take it seriously. It looks more like a parody logo to me than something to take serious. So frankly, if they’re worried about not looking silly, helmet-wearing dolphin might actually be the better option. I’ve never laughed at helmet-wearing dolphin once; I’ve laughed a great deal at belly-flop dolphin numerous times.

Its supposed to be swimming in the water, instead of jumping, thats how i interpret it, although with the sun in the back i can see where soneone would get the idea its jumping, to me it makes me think of as if their takig a picture underwater of a dolpin swimming with the sun shinning through, never have a once thought it was a belly flop.

And can i point out how the dolphins have one of the best brands in the league, some of the best throwbacks, on top of a hood current look, and the fact they successfully updated an older logo to bring it into the modern era?

The problem is that, even if it’s intended to be swimming, it carries over the same motif of a dolphin in front of the sun as the past “jumping” logos, so in that context it looks as if it’s supposed to be a different interpretation of the very same thing - a jumping dolphin. So in my head at least, I see a jumping dolphin and a very, uh, graceless re-entry.

Now, if there were no sun at all and it were just the dolphin on its own? Then I could totally see it swimming and likely would’ve seen it very quickly. BUT the communication I get from the carryover of the sun is that it’s out of the water and in the air like the previous dolphins were. Again, I want to emphasize that it indeed could be the intention that it’s swimming—I haven’t read any press release or designer’s notes that explain what the intention was and I’m not saying anyone’s “wrong”—all I’m saying is, regardless of the intention, that is what I see. First impressions are SO important in logo design and strongly influence what we think of it ever after, and my first impression of the current dolphin absolutely ruined it for me. I just can’t unsee a belly flop no matter how hard I try. Not saying others have to see it, if they see a swimming dolphin that’s totally cool. Just explaining where I’m coming from is all.

I think you have to assume it’s jumping up, not coming down. Which would also give a negative connotation.

Honestly, I agree that keeping the sun was a bad idea. It’s easily the worst logo in the NFL IMO as it stands, but seeing it in an application without the sun, it’s actually not that bad. I saw this cap the other day and actually rather liked the dolphin logo. Keeping the sun feels like you’re trying to have the best of both worlds, but in turn, ended up with total crap.

If they absolutely insist on keeping that oddly swimming dolphin, they should remove the sun from it and just put the standalone dolphin on the helmet. Maybe incorporate the jumping helmeted dolphin logo as an alternate throwback inspired logo or something. Or make a logo with the sun and a large orange M in an all white circle for the sleeves or something.

It or sucks because the Dolphins aren’t that far from looking decent. Problem is the way they’re doing it now, they look like a total joke.

That endzone and that wordmark are awesome. The only downside is the helmet in the endzone is the mid-to-late 80s, but the actual helmet worn is not. Small potatoes, though.

Kudos, Brandon.

Amazing how the NFL has strict rules...but then sometimes goes with "sure why not?".

The photo is from an old brochure.  I think this Sunday’s endzone with just be the wordmark sans helmet

yea, we'll have the helmet too. its still kind of a "modern" helmet (VSR-4. Brady still wears it) so its a modern equipment / throwback design, thing. i dont think we could push for a Revo Speed or the like. licensing and copyright issues there. theres no branding on the actual player helmets but when you can clearly make out what helmet would be painted on the field with the vents and masks and all the signature details, it gets hairy.

I love the throwbacks as much as anyone.  However I think the main problem with the new uniform was addressed this summer when they altered the set.  I’d have taken it one step further though and had the helmet and pants stripes be orange with aqua on the sides.  That’s minor though.  My only real complaint with their uniform is the aqua pants.  I’ve never liked them in any iteration.  Dolphins should always be in white pants IMO

I really wish they'd stuck with the '97 update, and just lessened their use of navy.  Now that was a great update, given that you could actually make out the dolphin's features, rather than looking like a blob.

The current dolphin isn't that bad, it's just not the old one, and the unis are mediocre.

...we would choose those alternates to both be a ‘66 throwback and i imagine wear one of them on the road at least once....

Of course they're wonderful, but I wish we'd adopt the one style change that was made in 1967 and lasted thru our glory years, the pant striping became orange-aqua-orange....

Will the helmet logos in the End Zone be from a side profile, or more 3D?

I can’t find many good pictures of old Endzones from the Orange Bowl days that show anything other than blank endzones or endzones that just read Orange Bowl.  I’m fairly certain the picture from the tweet is from the Super Bowl at Stanford Stadium against the 49ers. You can see the track in the background.   Here’s an overhead.

that first "flat" one. thats the official helmet the NFL provides, though the colors on that particular graphic are not correct. (the orange has more red in it than that)

Out of everything from the latest uniform overhaul (Think the current logo's previous set), I couldn't stand how the tail of the dolphin was angled.

Keep everything the same, but just point the tail downward like the previous logos, and I'm on board with it.

That tail just kills me and makes be feel like the logo is too long.
