Did part of the middle tifo (behind the loon tifo) tear, or was it supposed to be separated in two parts? Was confused seeing that unravel on TV.

I didn't see it until after the game, but it tore.  I'm impressed with how the section quickly brought up the other portion.

The lifted banner also tore and fell after it had been up for thirty seconds or so.  Growing pains, for sure; this is by far the most ambitious tifo that's been done in Minnesota.

Red and black contrast enough that there's no issues telling each side apart. I had to quit after 10-15 minutes because it was a strain on my eye to pick out hoops vs pinstripes.

MLS announces plans to expand to 30:https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/04/18/mls-announces-plans-expand-30-teams

Quote

Major League Soccer unveiled plans to expand to 30 teams in the coming years, up from the previous target of 28 clubs that the league had established in December 2015.

The decision was made by owners at Board of Governors meetings held in Los Angeles. No official decision was made on future expansion markets, but the Commissioner’s office was authorized to advance discussions with Sacramento and St. Louis ownership groups regarding their bids.

Both Sacramento and St. Louis groups will be asked to make formal presentations to the MLS Expansion Committee to address each bid’s final stadium plan, corporate commitments, the composition of the respective ownership groups, detailed economics on funding, strategic plans for fan development, commitments on player development and details on community programs.

In addition to Sacramento and St. Louis, the league remains in discussion with several other ownership groups in other cities.

“Professional soccer at all levels is thriving in the United States and Canada and we believe there are many markets that could support a successful MLS club,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in a league statement. “Expansion during the last 15 years has been enormously successful and a key driver behind the league’s continued rise, and we are pleased that some of the top business and community leaders representing great markets in North America are aggressively pursuing MLS expansion clubs.”

With agreements currently in place with 27 total clubs, the league anticipates selecting the 28th and 29th expansion teams in the coming months with a timetable yet to be determined for the 30th team.

The expansion fee for the 28th and 29th clubs was set at $200 million with an expansion fee for the 30th club yet to be determined.

Welcome Sacramento and St Louis, at the least.

I’m definitely not screaming on the inside. Or out loud, for that matter. Nobody on highway 80 this afternoon heard me absolutely lose my :censored: when that news came through the wire. Definitely wasn’t me.

Haha, no siree bob, not even a little bit. I’m cool as a cucumber.

This was bound to occur sooner than later, but here we are.

Will St. Louis start out in the Western Conference only to move to the East when the 30th team is named?  I'm thinking more San Diego or Phoenix as opposed to Charlotte or Detroit.

Sacramento should be a lock at this point. St Louis more than likely in but still has many more hurdles to go through including stadium and city issues and sponsorships. Phoenix is likely right behind. Charlotte, San Diego, Indy, Detroit still in the hunt but Id say its all but Sacramento, St Louis and Phoenix for the taking.

I’m basically McCarthy in the third period of game 4 yesterday. I’ve seen this :censored: go south too many times to start celebrating just yet.

But this is absolutely ENORMOUS.

My five year plan, which I’ve thought several times was completely dead and was a huge waste of my time and efforts, might actually pay off.

OH MY GOD.

So is 30 going to be the end point of MLS teams or do they want 32 so they have 16 in each conference, like the NFL does and the NHL will?

Or are the NHL and NFL going to be the only leagues to have 32?  I do think MLB will get to 32 once stadium situations in Oakland, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles Angels are situated, and at the rate things are going, it's going to take 50 years for Oakland and Tampa Bay to resolve their stadium issues, while I believe the Angels will get something done before their lease expires.  I have heard no movement at all about a 32 team NBA.

Sacramento is now a matter of "when" not "if."  St. Louis is almost there.  After that, it's going to be interesting to see who becomes #30.

MLS expanding to 30 is another sign of the league's growth and success.

Don’t you mean “who becomes #29?” The tulpa known as Inter Miami doesn’t count until they play a game.

That is true, and who knows at this point if they ever will.

If they even take the field, you know that their ““““temporary”””” stadium in Fort Lauderdale is going to quietly become permanent after Miami shoots down his stadium again.

Nope. And why should it be?  Once you go above twenty-ish, with a home and road series against every other club, it’s just a pointless, arbitrary number.  And 20 is far too small for a country as large as ours.

When the first 2026 World Cup ball is kicked, MLS will be closer to 40 clubs than 30.  And why not?

And I really don't care how many there are so long as St. Louis is one of them.

The news that expansion will go to 30 in the near future was music to my ears. I couldn't be more excited.

If they can even use Lockhart because someone else is suing over that now!

You just need a better ownership group than last time.  MLS has been trying to help, but like the NFL the leagues can only do so much.  I would make sure that Dave Peacock is kept far, far away from it; he screws everything up.
