Ronaldo's path to a couple of "retirement seasons" in MLS just cleared a major hurdle.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo won’t face criminal charges after a woman accused him of raping her at a Las Vegas Strip resort in 2009.

Prosecutor Steve Wolfson said in a statement Monday that after reviewing a new police investigation, he determined that sexual assault claims can’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and no charge will be filed.

Somehow a “like” seems really inappropriate for that post.  But I still want to thank you for the info.

I was at the game last night. Suffice to say, frustrating.

Seattle started hacking down players at the end as well and Diego Chara earned his 5th yellow card for a dumb hip check towards the end.  This was not one of the rivalry's better games.

City of Obetz, OH has told Jimmy Haslem to bring in the Browns or move out the Crew. There's a way to get what you want, but telling the team that has been there you'd like his older stepbrother to visit or he needs to find a new place to live is pretty crap. I understand that the intent is to make up for losing the Ohio Machine, but the Crew has been doing most of the maintenance after the city built the complex. I don't know what they think is going to happen if the Crew take their toys and leave. Granted that's exactly what will happen when the new stadium opens.

"What we are asking of them is to make sure that Obetz, which has been the longtime home of the Crew, has an opportunity to participate with the facilities that we've already developed and invested here, to be part of the Browns/Crew group, and to be able to bring events to southern Franklin County," (administrator and economic development director for the village Rod) Davisson said.

"Those events need to be substantial," he said. "It's got to be something meaningful, something people want to see, like a (Browns) training camp, like a (Browns) skills competition."

Yeah, but... a skills competition?  That’s what he’s holding the lease hostage to get?

Anything for additional revenue. The thought of a minicamp weekend there would be a boom for them with charging for just parking.

While the Crew are essentially month to month in terms of leasing the practice facility, their last contract only had them paying around $2,300/month. The village only gets between $10,000-15,000 in addition tax revenue from the team being there.

To be fair to Obetz they did just lose the MLL Ohio Machine who played at the new village owned Fortress Obetz that opened in 2017. Got to find a new revenue source somehow.

Losing one source is understandable, but demanding that your other tenant bring in someone else to fill that gap or start looking for a new practice facility instead of going to the Browns themselves and offering the facilities for a mini-camp is pretty petulant.

Haslem now owns both. The village went to the same source. Obetz stood by the team during the uncertainty of the last 24 months and even went month to month in lease terms. They would like some certainty before the new stadium (which breaks ground in October) opens and the team's eventual departure.

There's asking for certainty and there's "GTFO" which is what it looks like to everyone in the area. The fact that the person who seems to be trying to push an immediate decision is the one who lost out big when the Machine were folded and a concert festival he wanted there died off makes locals even angrier at the guy.

So, things aren't great for the Whitecaps. Fans wearing paper bags and chanting for front office firings at home games.

If they get eliminated by Cavalry in the CCL tonight, it's going to get a lot worse.

Could be possible announcement tomorrow for Chicagos return to Soldier Field. This was briefly up on their page on Monday.

The irony is that they lost to a team that was largely made up of players that were either in the academy and let go or were from the academy catchment and were never identified.

Yep. And Cavalry isn't even the CPL team with the most Whitecaps Academy products on it.
