North American Pro Soccer 2019

No exciting rivalry news in New England -- nobody remembers the chippy games with the Fire! -- but a nice winner from Bou, who's been a key midseason pickup. Exactly the kind of guy who scores important goals they've lacked for some time.

Can't overstate how much this team owes to Bruce Arena's takeover.

He's even got me watching MLS again!

Maybe it's just me, but I never think of Ohio as being Midwestern.  Chicago is located in the Midwest, but isn't really Midwestern. 😁  Texas is just... Texas.

Born and raised Ohioan here. In terms of geography, not really midwest, though definitely not east "coast" either. In terms of attitude, economies, culture, the Columbus kid in me identifies far more closely with the midwest than I do east coast. There are times when Cincinnati feels downright southern.

People I worked with in Seattle told me I was from the East Coast. People in New York and Philadelphia told me I was from the Midwest. I don't know. We're lumped into the midwest whenever it's convenient to include us in that demo.

A college friend from Ohio told me he was from "the mideast." Makes as much sense as anything, really. Though I include Ohio, western New York and western PA as the Rust Belt and that's always been good enough for me.

Last night was what I dreamt about when we were saving the crew and trying to get FCC to MLS. A packed house, beautiful weather, two cities who can find many ways to hate each other finally playing a game in a sport where both were on the same level. The game wasn't good and I found Crew fans to be the same snobs they've always been, but it was still fun. I look forward to next season when I expect FC Cincinnati will have a drastically different roster.

I'd say the fans finally enjoyed an opponent whose fans were as happy to have a team to root for as we are. Too bad the Crew haven't been able to play that well all year. Having watched EPL "juggernauts" control the ball like that and not score a single goal, I was ecstatic to see the Crew finally put the ball in the net. Part of it was the rivalry, part of it was finally getting players closer to full strength. I do think everyone can agree that the guy singing the national anthem needed some help. I'm sad Room was denied his first shutout as well, he's been a godsend since Steffen left.

Weekend began with a message Seattle win at Portland, and ended with a banger in LA (that I sadly missed).

MLS!

Zlatan was huge again, LAFC still can't get over the Galaxy hump, and now it looks like Carlos Vela (wo had a great game up until he got hurt) may be out for a bit.

That's the kind of game this league needs.

If MLS does convert to a 3 division alignment once it gets to 30 teams, one would think that expansion teams 29 & 30 would have to be out west for it to balance?

WEST

Colorado

LAFC

LA Galaxy

Portland

Salt Lake

San Jose

Seattle

Vancouver

Expansion 29

Expansion 30

CENTRAL

Austin

Chicago

Cincinnati

Columbus

Dallas

Houston

Kansas City

Minnesota

Nashville

St. Louis

EAST

Atlanta

DC

Miami

Montreal

New England

New York

NYCFC

Orlando

Philadelphia

Toronto

Yeah, Phoenix and Las Vegas are going to fit quite comfortably in those spots.

That looks convenient but only works if all the smoke coming from Charlotte (which sounds more likely than SD or Vegas) turns out to be nothing.

I can't see MLS passing up David Tepper & his Eleventy Bazillion dollars either.

Sure! Toss Charlotte in the mix as well. Balance it out with, pffft, I dunno, Omaha? That's where Warren Buffet is from, right?

Is Drogba worth Eleventy Bazillion dollars?

If not, then absolutely David Tepper.

I wonder who the MLS would rather have as an owner, Didier Drogba (as minority owner in Phoenix) or David Tepper?  I think it would be kind of cool to have Drogba and Beckham in the MLS as owners.

Yeah, it's neat to have former players as owners, but David Tepper is worth about $12 billion dollars. Would any league turn down that kind of money?

Would a Charlotte MLS team share Bank of America stadium with the Panthers?

Yep, since Tepper already owns the stadium, he wants to renovate it a bit, and then ask for an indoor domed stadium in about 10 years. I'll only like it if it includes a baseball team with it.

The oldest trophy in American soccer is up for grabs tonight; the US Open Cup final between Atlanta United and Minnesota United. Oddly, this is the first time since 1996 that the final won't be televised (it's on ESPN+).

The days of MLB/NFL shared stadiums are over with the Raiders/A's the only one until the Raiders move to Vegas next year. An MLB team in Charlotte or Raleigh would have it's own ballpark.
