This week's Hang Up and Listen took on that subject and had an interview with Sheba Rawson, who is currently the President of the 107 Independent Supporters Trust (dba Timbers Army and Rose City Riviters).  The conversation starts at about the 39 minute mark.  Within the conversation, it came to my attention that there actually was an Independent Supporters Council.

EDIT:  After going through the website of the 107, they have, in quick order, replaced all of those associated with Texas A&M University: The Corps of Cadets, The 12th Man, and Former Students (since they don't call themselves Alumni) as the most self-important fanbase/supporters in North America.

In their list of Event  Calendar, they place their Supporters Group vs. Opponent's Team Name.

Unless there is some trademark issue, which their apparently isn't since they use the opponents full MLS or NWSL name, you are fulling putting yourself BEFORE the club you cheer for.  Get over yourselves.

You're not reading that correctly. They're not identifying the upcoming matches in the schedule. Those are listings for how to buy tickets into the supporters sections for away matches. So where it says "Timbers Army @ Sporting KC" is a link to instructions on how to buy tickets to sit with the Timbers Army at the Sporting KC game. It's not a self-reverential reference.

Poor Cincinnati :(

I'll always appreciate my close personal friend Jeff Berding (I once gave him my seat at a restaurant bar when my table became available) for doing all he did to start the franchise and get this city in Major League Soccer. That was an impossible task 3 years ago.

BUT

his handling of the team roster and coaching through their inaugural season has been positively Bengalian, and you can see his experience with the Bengals coming out in that regard. Hopefully the Dutch Boys Gerard Nijkamp and Ron Jans can right the ship now that there's actual soccer minds running the soccer side and Alan Koch is long :censored:ing gone.

How wacky is MLS that we now expect expansion teams to hit the ground running? FCC sucks but back in my day, that was the role of new teams. Look at Minnesota, now in year 3 in MLS, they got their stadium and they mostly figured out how to be a competent soccer team again. Not every new team can be the trust funders in Atlanta and Los Angeles!

When St. Louis begins play in MLS I totally expect at least a few years of futility, if not decades of mediocrity. I'm okay with that.

Oh yes, look at how bad TFC was for the first 8 years.

I'd think that's an easier assumption to make with the mid-sized, non-sexy markets like St. Louis, Cincinnati, Minnesota, etc. Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am, but i don't see a lot of instant-impact stars -- the Carlos Velas of the world — eyeing middle America as their place to shine.

With the way Atlanta and LAFC came into the league, with the way FC Cincinnati had never made a wrong decision in the bid to get into MLS, and with the way I know nothing about what a good MLS team makes, I will admit I was expecting them to compete in year one. And for a little bit early in the season it looked like they would.

That was probably silly and now they look like a more typical expansion team. If they're not improved next season then I'll be more upset.

I mean, I'm personally hoping the St. Louis club lures Edin Džeko or Sead Kolašinac to middle America. I don't expect the Carlos Velas of the world to come to St. Louis immediately.

Until MLS posts that Don Garber will be in Sacramento for a huge announcement on such and such day, then I'll believe it.

and even then I won't believe it until the words come out of his mouth.  Otherwise if he's ever in town I'll think it's just to screw Sacramento in person.

Worth pointing out that Sacramento hasn’t been screwed.  The league has been very clear as to what they have to do.

I desperately want them in the league.  More than Nashville, St. Louis, or any of the current contenders.  But they haven’t been victimized, or poorly treated.  Far from it; I doubt any other league would work with them as hard as MLS has.

This whole debacle is just as much Sac Republic’s fault as it is MLS’ fault. They both ultimately walk away from this looking pretty dumb.

I went to tune into the Revs/NYCFC match only to find it's not available locally on English-language TV. It's on Univision in Spanish but I don't get that channel. Thought MLS was past the point of untelevised games in local markets. The 90s really are back!

at this point you could make the argument that TFC has made exactly one great signing in their history.

I'd say 2 but I hear you.
