GDAWG 1,781 Posted October 21, 2019 So who is your surprise darkhorse candidate for #31 or #32? I am going to say New Mexico United if they can get a stadium deal and a billionaire to own the team.

The A's plans for a stadium isn't a done deal and besides, they could be gone from California by the time MLS adds San Diego, which would leave them at 4 teams and give MLS 5 teams.

As a Texan, I don't know where a 4th Texas team in MLS would come from. Austin FC practically eliminated San Antonio FC from moving up and I can't see Rio Grande Valley FC Toros or El Paso Locomotive FC making the move up either.

Based on your assertion (and my being overly pedantic) MLB is and will always be the first to have five teams in California. 9 minutes ago, GDAWG said: So who is your surprise darkhorse candidate for #31 or #32? They go from 0 teams in 2015 to potentially 3 by 2022 and 5 (if MLB and NBA ever announce expansion) by 2025. I don't recall any city going from having 0 major league teams to having 5 in a decade.

DG_ThenNowForever 15,316 Posted October 21, 2019 I was anti-Sacramento in MLS because they stole our NBA team while we were in the act of stealing it from them. But they've been a passionate fanbase with a great name and logo. I wish them well.

Digby 6,107 Posted October 21, 2019 Maybe an unpopular opinion but the Sacramento badge really could use some top-level refinements, IMHO. Keep the colors, the name, the bear ... but there's plenty of room for improvement but strong pieces to work from, which is a nice place to be. Unless they crash and burn the way Nashville's update did.
Gothamite 23,659 Posted October 21, 2019 I think the recent update was a great one. Kept the essentials and dropped some of the clutter.

Unless they crash and burn the way Nashville's update did. Unless there's been a recent shift, our current badge is going to be the MLS badge as well. It was tweaked last year just slightly, but one of the things they did was remove the registered trademark symbol from the primary graphic. I've been told it's because they felt that the brand was strong enough to protect, but I have my suspicion that the reason the mark was even altered in the first place was to facilitate its use in MLS. That would be a bit of a departure from what MLS has done in the past, but really, this entire expansion process has been a departure from how things are usually done. I'd be a bit surprised if MLS insisted on us making any type of wholesale changes to our crest at this point, but who really knows? Our current crest is immensely popular around the Sacramento area, and I sort of think they recognize the power of our brand. Forcing a change to it when it's already as well established as it is (It's been nearly a decade since this brand was first introduced) could be a mistake.

They removed a few outlines here and there, and dropped the championship star that was added on after the first season. I'll try to post an example later today, as it's somewhat difficult to find online. Edit: Here we go. The left is the jersey crest from 2018, while the right is the one from this current season.
