A new lawsuit from the Cosmos? Strangely enough they are searching for a new league to play in since NASL will not be viable next year.

https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2019/09/29/no-room-at-the-inn-cosmos-trying-to-find-a-league-may-not-play-in-2020/

The Cosmos have nobody but themselves to blame.   Their owner has established himself as a Trumpian agent of chaos, a toxic mix of lying and self-aggrandizement.  He’s burned relationships everywhere, forcing out their oldest supporters group, one that preceded the club itself, and making all his former partners run away.  No surprise that he’s the only one who can’t find a league that wants him, and all his former partners have chosen to play elsewhere.

The NASL isn’t “viable” because the owners, led by Rocco, didn’t bother to have a business plan.  They watched their best club slowly implode over the course of its sole season, and couldn’t do anything to find new ownership.  They failed all on their own, and are now casting about looking to blame anyone but themselves.

In the wake of that failure, Rocco has made the Cosmos the pariah of American soccer; unloved and forlorn, abandoned by all but a few hundred fans and unwanted in any organized league at every level.

I'd still take the Wiz over culturally appropriating European style team names due to thinking that making MLS teams sound European will attract the snob who only watches European soccer. Spoiler alert: Won't work. Won't ever work.

We're long past the point where those names are perceived as "European".  Now they're just the names that are associated with soccer.

The proof of this is that when the Syracuse Silver Knights (ugh) of the MASL moved to Utica, they changed their name to Utica City FC.  An indoor soccer team in Upstate New York was certainly not trying to score any "Eurosnob" points.  It was simply rebranding to something that was more professional-sounding than the silly "Silver Knights" name.  And it chose a name that perfectly exhibits that trait.

I mean, Real Salt Lake is absurd; this name unforgivably hands free ammunition to anyone living in the past with an axe to grind.  But by all means bring on all the Uniteds and FCs and SCs and whatnot.  That's just how we do it in soccer.

We've been over this, the king of Utah gave them their blessing.

I don't mind FC, SC, and even United, but when you use Real and Sporting without actually earning those names, it feels wrong. Like what did a Salt Lake club founded in 2005 do to earn the recognition of the Spanish king? What other sports does Sporting Kansas City play? What's next for an MLS team to appropriate? Miami's got Inter covered, although that one just seems weird. Does any Spanish-speaking club use the phrase "Club Internacional"? I know Miami's got a lawsuit from Inter Milan, but I am curious to see if using that specific phrasing is common in Spanish-speaking clubs.

Sounders came in with a game plan and have executed it basically perfectly. Vela seems quieter than I’ve ever seen and the Sounders have capitalized on just about every LAFC mistake. Gonna be a great final 20 cause LAFC is about to throw the entire house at Seattle.

God, this has been such a fun post season.

Keep an eye on Nouhou, #5 for Seattle. He can be a real :censored: starter.

Seattle's gotten some luck on inadvertant handballs not called. Outside of that, they've basically been perfect.

EDIT: If LAFC fans are going to keep throwing garbage on the field, they ought to cancel the rest of this game.

Okay Bob. Maybe think about why the main contribution of your best player was being a decoy for someone else. One coach had a plan; the other seemed to think being in the building was enough.

Let’s gooooooo

If someone had told me that the final would be 3-1 and that one side couldn’t buy a call, I’d have bet the house on LAFC. Wow.

Gonna need an assist on whether this is true for the NHL, but I believe this means the best regular season team in every major sport’s history has yet to win the playoffs.

Vamos ATL. We ready!

I don’t think so. I thought the lightning from last year and the wings from the mid 90s were similar, but they had only collected a ton of wins and fell short (lightning much shorter and much more embarrassing than Detroit). The best team, if you define best by points which should absolutely be the case, goes to the 76-77 Canadians with 132, and although I wasn’t born the internet has told me they won the cup. Sounded very very dominant as well. Like to the point no one could argue that they were at a completely higher level that year. Around +200 Goal differential in regular season and a clean sweep of the finals. Terrifying.

Edit: To be fair, the 72 Dolphins also won the most games they possibly could on their way to the title.... I think I’d throw a * next to that one

Final renderings for MLS stadium in St. Louis

In the article it details that the ownership group is seeking tax abatements, but the stadium will be entirely privately financed and owned (and therefore ownership will also pay upkeep and maintenance), will continue to pay some property taxes, won't be lining downtown St. Louis with even more parking (which could be a challenge but definitely has its positives), and will include a space for eSports.

Pretty wild turn of events last night -- Sounders really have nailed the whole "peak at the right time" thing, to their credit. I have enjoyed LAFC's raising of the bar and I would like to see my guy Lee Nguyen get himself a title, but also I kinda hate it when new teams (and new fanbases) get the pleasure of winning immediately, so I'm okay with this. Suffer for a while, LAFC!

Of course it will have a space for eSports, because "it's the hip and cool thing" these days to be involved in eSports.

Bass fishing is more of a sport than playing video games are. And you can be a 500 pound alcoholic and compete in bass fishing.
