I wish but it's not green unfortunately because they're debuting their City kit against Charlotte on November 30 and Charlotte will be in their Teal Icon.

Pacers are going with a White version of the 2017-18 set honoring Nascar it looks like.

Orlando's is mehhhhh. Would have been better if they were Orange but they're honoring the Central Florida Orange groves.

This Wild West of NBA uniforms is a really bad look. Much has been said about that Warriors/Lakers debacle and I agree with the sentiment. It’s really no different in my eyes than if for whatever reason the Yankees wore blue at home and the White Sox came into Yankee Stadium wearing pinstripes. It’s a preposterous idea that shouldn’t happen and this shouldn’t have happened either at Staples.

Another massive problem is the perception of brand team by team. Some are better off than others, but there’s a few teams with quite the mess of an identity right now. Using the Jazz as an example because I see the evidence of this every day: the primary colors as presented and listed on a style guide are navy/gold/green, but you know what merchandise I see far more predominantly everywhere I go? The red rock stuff, and it’s not even close. I even see more classic edition purple than the primary stuff. So when I see the Jazz brand represented outside of the arena, I’m seeing a completely different color scheme and identity (two if you want to count classic edition) than the one the team presents as its primary. It almost looks secondary at this point. It’s easy to look at this and confuse it for a brand positive because sure, it’s selling and lots of merch is out there, but no matter how much the other stuff is selling, it will always look like the brand has multiple personalities and thus no clear direction. The problem isn’t that fans flock to one (or two) more than the other, it’s that there’s multiple, vastly different identities and personalities of the brand out there in the first place. And the Jazz aren’t the only ones.

Many (myself included) harp on teams like the Canucks and Padres for their brand history containing many stark differences and inconsistencies in identity; well, the NBA has a few teams having that right now, simultaneously, within their own current brand thanks to its current free-for-all system. That’s a massive problem, and what’s worse is that it’s getting confused for a good or “cool” thing. Branding across the NBA needs a hard reset back to tradition and basics in the worst way.

Agreed on the NBA and Nike hitting the reset button on teams’ branding. While there are a few jerseys/color schemes I like in a vacuum (Utah being chief among them), there’s no cohesiveness or consistency to the vast majority of these City Edition jerseys; they’re in one year and out the next. It’s hard to stick down and keep track of who’s who, which is the primary reason why sports teams wear uniforms in the first place. Teams should stick to one “City/slightly off-brand ” alternate (be it Utah’s, BFBS, or otherwise) for at least 2-3 years.

And while we’re at it? Let’s have some coherence of who’s at home and who’s on the road. It doesn’t have to be as extreme as Yellow vs. White except in cases where the team wearing yellow was the Lakers, but limit lighter colors (Yellow, Orange, Light Blue, etc.) to be primarily home alternates and have darker colors to be primarily road games. I don’t mind a little leeway where the home team wears the darker uniform either, but limit the number of times a team can do that. IIRC someone from the Jazz front office said that they could only wear their green alternates (pre-2016) only about 12 times a year…I’d love to see more restraint applied. For instance, the Jazz could integrate the southern Utah gradient into their logo (I’ve mocked up a couple options before), or, if they really, really wanted to, change their color palette to the gradient colors (I’d prefer the first option for some brand continuity.)

Thats why I’m appreciating the Jazz’s approach of changing NOTHING the last three years outside the classic jerseys.

I agree here too. While the orange gradient is off-brand for Navy/Gold/Green Utah, at least it hasn’t been mothballed for the next experiment. Of course, while I like the current Gold alternates, I feel that their Green (Earned) counterparts are (were) superior (of course, I’ve been advocating for the Jazz to be a green-first team for years).

Next year's Orlando City set will be Orange version of this year's set. It's bound to happen.

Thankfully, it's not.

Imagine working so hard and so long and with so many people on something that really isn't that great...maybe they were going for a "citronauts" idea because "OMG UCF IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW"...but it falls flat. The jersey would probably more well-received if it said Orl*ndo (with big star for the A, obvs) in the NASA-like font, as people would at least appreciate the effort of harkening back to the 90s font. For some reason the Magic execs think fans love the bouncing ball-stars logo, but pinstripes, stars, and 90s fonts have way more equity for this team.

Ahhh...

Before the whole world inundates you, can I get first mover’s advantage and ask you - is the Thunder's 20/21 City jersey ‘good’?

The Magic's jerseys look like a rip off Heat jersey.

Yeah, I was thinking a Heat and Suns crossover. Does not make me think of the Magic at all.

Orlando Magic Unveil New Citrus-Themed Uniforms

November 15, 2019 - 17:27 PM

Whoever had anthracite and orange on their City Colours BINGO card, congratulations! The Orlando Magic this morning unveiled their new City Edition uniform for the 2019-20 season, it’s a design and colour scheme that has very little to do with […]

Kinda strange considering the Asian Citrus Psyllid (And the way they transmit HLB) has basically killed the entire citrus industry in the sate of Florida. The majority of oranges processed in the state of Florida now come from Brazil, and the largest orange producing state in the country is now California.

The end of Florida orange juice? A lethal disease is devastating the state’s citrus industry.

I used to do ACP trapping for the state and they're basically impossible to eliminate.

I thought more of an eventual alternate to the Suns grey era jerseys, the grey is darker and the orange is brighter but it’s essentially a flipped version of the orange alternate at the time.

Is this right here the crumb that allows those Navy Philadelphia alternates to be both legit and not in use in 2019-20?
