College Football 2019

A bit off topic, but you do not not normally see a Kicker get benched. Indiana/Purdue. IU kicker has missed 3 FGs, gets pulled, and his backup nails a 41 yarder.

Oh, not too bad of a uni matchup too. All black for Purdue. Red/white/white for IU.

Good game as well. Not a blowout like most of the early games.

The Territorial Cup will be color on color with both schools in their traditional home combos and ASU going with Sparky on the helmets, pants, and at midfield:

Should be a pretty nice looking matchup, but Arizona should’ve gone with the Desert Swarm throwbacks.

Unfortunately the throwbacks worn this season were auctioned off after the game, so it was only a one time uniform for this season. However, we will be wearing the traditional striped helmet this week.

Why is Baylor wearing olive green jerseys? Did someoneess them up in the wash?

Not sure, but when I saw the highlights, they essentially looked like 1998 Oregon Ducks (I'm not complaining though)

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Here's a pic from Baylor's website. While they still look a little more drab than usual, they aren't nearly as bad as they looked on TV. I think it had to do with the camera lighting as everything else looked washed out too.

Hopefully Kansas goes back to just having royal pants and white pants. Royal/royal/white and royal/white/royal (or r/w/w) are all they need.

Over in Manhattan, Iowa State vs. K-State is a good looking matchup.

Utah is in 60’s throwbacks again tonight, and I think they’re fine in a vacuum, but as a fan growing up watching old Mountain West football, I get way too many New Mexico or UNLV vibes from the silver-red-silver. Despite it being a throwback, it just doesn’t really look like Utah. Give it a red helmet and white pants though, and then you’re really cooking.

I don't mind Kansas with gray pants. They have some classic looks that are kinda NY Giants-esque. But getting all fancy schmancy isn't a great idea for KU.

It's year one and they aren't bowl eligible. Let's see how they improve next year.

As long as it's only with a blue or red jersey. It doesn't look as good with white jerseys.

Sparky is obnoxiously oversized and navy vs. maroon should be illegal.

How? That’s the size he’s always been.

I'll see you those and raise you the mid-2000s Kansas. LIGHT gray (silver) pants look amazing on KU. Dark gray (gunmetal, etc) DO NOT.

dI will always say this about ANY rivalry game in high school and college football, and maybe perhaps even in pro football: rivalry games SHOULD ALWAYS BE color vs color. My high school team went this route against our rivals the past 2 years, and it was quite refreshing. But games like what USC/UCLA does every year should be the normal. It always looks good (well, most of the time it does) and it helps the school vs school recognition more than what a regular game does. It helps the game feel big time, which it should be.

I'm also inclined to say that I'm preaching to the crowd here. If you need more convincing here are some examples:

Absolutely. I really liked those Kansas uniforms from that time they were good.

I disagree that all rivalry games should be color on color. I’m a Georgia fan and I hated those matchups with red versus blue. I’m also color blind, so to me the shades of the helmets and pants were way too close in live action to provide any contrast at all.  The jerseys both being bright colors was a little confusing, too. It certainly didn’t work like the traditional home versus road. Some matchups work better than others and I’m glad we’ve reverted back to the normal way.

Color on Color should just be left up to the teams, IMO, instead of the wrist-slap penalty of losing a time out. As memory serves, with the UCLA-USC series, the away team will lose a timeout for violating uniform rules and then the home team will just ceremoniously burn a time out on the first play.

Forcing color-vs-color in rivalry games is a dumb idea, though. Nearly a century of great Nebraska-Oklahoma games prove my point.
