They look great, but I can't really see these going over too well with the players.

Looks awesome, but yeah.  Main point of emphasis will be abuse of the material as being grabbed.  Second point is that players can't show off their ink, which is a tragedy.

interesting that they went to all those lengths to make this long sleeved throwback uniform and use the modern number font

Since they had no numbers in 1869 I guess it makes sense. They could have gone with a generic number font though and most people would overlook them.

To make this a real homage to the inaugural college football game back in 1869 Rutgers needs to request that the NCAA allow them to have 25 players on the field at a time. If that happens they might even cover the spread against the Gophers!

I’m think he meant having pants striping that has the helmet’s thin navy outer stripes and has the argyle pattern imposed over a central stripe that is either white or Carolina blue, depending on the pants color.

didn't think about that. Still, going with their current font cheapens it, in a way, to me. It makes it feel less throwback-y to me, even though its a football jersey that has sleeves in 2019

Rutgers' number font is fairly close to the Astros' number font (especially on the serifs)...and looking at the 1869 bumper, the Rutgers' font might be an upgrade for the Astros.

The 9 is pretty ugly though.

Rutgers just revealed LONG SLEEVED jerseys for their throwback

Oh God, that’s ugly. Regular sleeves would make this look good, but those long sleeves are awful looking and, as a former player (albeit only high school), I can’t see those being comfortable at all.

Rutgers / adidas just won the season. i would love to see every team, NFL too, adopt a long sleeve jersey as a cold weather option

I sympathize with you Oregon fans now. Since posting anything about Oregon's uniforms and potential combination for Saturday's game, my Twitter mentions have been nothing but the same, tired rhetoric. You know the ones.

"They're costumes/outfits, not uniforms!"

"I bet they're ugly whatever they wear."

"They changing every quarter?"

It's the same remarks over and over again

My jaw just dropped. Those long sleeve Rutgers uniforms are incredible. I’ve always loved looking at old photos of my grandfather from when he played in long sleeves and leather helmets. Adidas did a phenomenal job with these, an idea that I wouldn’t have thought could work in modern times yet they executed brilliantly.

Expect to see a little more of this from other programs in the near future with other brands joining in as well, particularly as shoulder pads continue to shrink. I think the players will love the way they look in cold weather games as long as they aren’t restricting, which shouldn’t be too big of an issue with the jersey material Adidas uses.

Oregon brought it on themselves.

It's pretty clear that sports uniform discussion is super repetitive, no matter what the platform is. I mean seriously, I bet if you documented the discussion surrounding the Cleveland Browns just on this website, you would be able to prove that without a doubt.

They don't have stripes that match the helmets though..

The blue pants' stripes actually match the white helmets - and vice versa..

Would look much better if it was more cohesive imo

It's the same in the *fire emoji* camps as the "uniforms don't decide football games" side of things. That's why I enjoy this forum, there's actually discussion and conversations about things. Out there, it doesn't happen that way.

And I feel it will continue until the uniform bubble pops. It's bound to happen at some point.

They (kinda) used my idea! It looks pretty awesome too, I'm just interested to hear if they receive similar unpleasant feedback as the NBA sleeved jerseys.

I also made suggestions of this sort not long ago! Nice to see that we're not (completely) crazy lol

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Unveil Long-Sleeve Throwback Uniforms

August 29, 2019 - 17:27 PM

This season wouldn’t officially be celebration of the 150th anniversary of college football’s first game without either Rutgers or Princeton — the two teams that participated in said game — being involved in some capacity. Thankfully, the Scarlet Knights came […]

Finally!  This may be the greatest day in football uniform history. I'm pretty sure it squeaks past the day two years or so ago when UCLA proved you absolutely can do real shoulder loops on a modern cut and everyone had to STFU about how it "just can't work".  The only bad side of this is that it came from a team without sleeve stripes.  I hope tOSU gets right on their version ASAP.
