You guys know what tonight was? What Super Bowl LIII turned out to be?

 

Chess.

 

It was a brutal mind game that would've tested the finest minds on this planet. And to be honest, when it comes to the NFL, I don't mind seeing that on occasion.

 

Yes. I hear the 'sick of NE' comments that have permeated message boards and social media the last 15 years, but, whether those out there like it or don't, I say.

 

Congratulations to the 6-Time Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots.

 

And to be honest, I've kind of not minded the ride the NFL's been on since the Pats 1st.

 

And, oddly, I want that ride to keep going a little while longer.

 

The Rams? Sad to say, but if you want to win a game of either chess or football, you need two important things...Patience and Experience.

 

Compared to New England, this Rams team was a young one with future promise. This will help the players on that team moving forward.

 

Jared Goff will claim Lombardi one day, and he will credit Super Bowl LIII for helping him get there.

 

But tonight, right now? Duck boats will roll and float in Boston Tuesday morning.

 

I liked Super Bowl LIII. And I hope a lot of others did too.

They usually do come back.

 

It doesn't go for everything. But there's a couple things I don't take too seriously, when it comes to these types of sports discussions. Part of it, whether the team wins or loses, I take it in good fun.

I dislike the Patriots as much as the next guy but the onus on stopping their wins isn't on them, it's on the rest of the NFL. Belichick is probably the greatest coach in NFL history. If everyone was so tired of the Patriots, some owner should have tried to lure him away

Julian Edelman is, I think, the first Jewish Super Bowl MVP. That in and of itself is cool, but given the state of the world? It’s really  ing cool.

But still, it just feels like its impossible to root for anyone else in the NFL these days. However, these are the Patriots we're talking about, a team that has been accused of cheating for almost eleven YEARS.

I didn’t think the game was boring so much as it was weird; I really expected this to be a shootout and I’m shocked Brady didn’t throw a TD tonight with as well as he was connecting with Edelman and Gronk. I was also floored that Gurley was basically non-existent for the most part and I wasn’t sure what to think of that.

 

I did expect Goff to have some jitters but I thought he’d eventually shake them off and find a groove; he never did, and frankly he sucked tonight. He missed more than a few guys that were wide open, made some pretty questionable reads, and that last interception was a nailed coffin as soon as it left his hands. I didn’t expect him to have a Brady-type game by any means, but I expected him to play a whole lot better.

 

Both defenses were very solid tonight, and in a weird way, that’s a huge credit to both the Rams for holding the Patriots to only 13 (and no Brady pass TD’s) but also a credit to the Patriots’ offense for making the absolute most of the chances they were given against such a tough defense.

 

The game was pretty well officiated and the Pats won it fair. They did thier job, and you can’t fault them for that. Sure I loathe them as much as the next guy, but still. They earned this one for sure.

If they ever win one, I’d finally be free from being fully emotionally invested in a sports franchise. I’d be good forever because I saw my all-time favorite team win a championship.

When the Bucs won, I remember sitting in bed feeling happy but thinking, wait that’s it? Ok, this is different than I expected. It was fun, but also somewhat empty. Sort of disappointing, actually. It was like, this a great accomplishment, but it’s not my accomplishment. I was just rooting for it. I can’t say it “set me free”. 

 

BUT, then the Giants finally won a World Series. That actually felt like a sense of freedom to me. And it was one I wasn’t expecting, either. I kinda thought it would make me a bigger fan, but instead that run it just killed a certain portion of the passion I had. Again, don’t get me wrong, still love the Giants and always will. But that yearning for something I’ve never had and that urge to cling to every moment went away. Honestly, there’s a part of me that sort of misses it. It stemmed from a lot of the same things. Fun to witness it, but it didn’t change :censored: for me personally other than draining my bank account on championship gear. 

 

In a weird way, I actually really enjoy sports hating on teams like the Pats and guys like Brady even more now because it’s sort of all I have left. But just like winning, none of it really matters and I’m over it in about a half hour. 

 

 

In other words, sports championships aren’t worth shortening your life for.

I think that everyone else is looking at it too simply.  When you actually look at the facts, they don't win every year, there has been nearly a decade where they didn't win, and they lost two of the last three they were in.  

 

I mean, there's emotion, and there's facts.  People really need to look at the facts before piping off.  I get it that it sucks when your team isn't winning and another one always is - believe me I get it... my team was a victim of 'spy gate', and I'm certainly no Pats fan - but at some point people need to look at the reality of the situation.

 

Vet. You’re fighting a losing battle. Take it from a Pats fan; you’re not going to win this one.
