On this [a dislike of the bell cap] I agree.

Brown and gold is a fantastic color combination.  Adding orange was a step too far, muddying up a really great look.

Please note that the bell cap predated the introduction of orange by several years.

I love the bell cap, and also the better monogram that went with it. The bell design was a very attractive and creative style point that was unique to the Padres. And the monogram, which had the S elegantly hooking the D rather than being awkwardly shoved into it, dated back to the PCL days. But even without these elements that are such pillars the Padres' brand identity, the new cap still looks good. That's how important brown is.

And I agree that orange was an unnecessary and unworthy addition to the brown and yellow colour scheme.

I too like the smaller SD from 69-84 better.  It’s more stylistically their brand. But the main thing is beginning in 1953, the Padres began using the interlocking SD, in 53 it was a more rounded version, then in 56 they incorporated the style that was eventually used by the major league club. The interlocking SD degraded itself IMO from 85 onward, but as long as its interlocking I’m good with it (especially with them going back to brown and gold).

Ooh yeah, that’s the way to do it.

Yes. Yes. Yes to the darker almost black Brown color. Nice contrast against the yellow.

I hope we see a comparison photo of the older brown on fields next to this new brown. Even the brown and orange TBTC. I’d love to see how this compares.

the actual change on the sd seems almost too subtle. Almost like manufacturers changed. But not the design.

Yup. That’s fantastic.

You know I'm not really someone who wears random teams hats, but that is really really nice. Not sure how someone could prefer a boring navy blue and white look to that masterpiece.

The answer is because navy and white is easier to match with most everyday outfits than brown is. I think that's why they went to that more boring color scheme to begin with. Thinking that a navy and white cap will sell better than a brown cap to those non-Padres fans who are just buying a cap for fashion or for casual wear. While the Padres are infinitely better in brown I think there is a solid reasoning for thinking navy and white would sell better outside of the actual Padres fan base than brown would.

Like someone said, bell cap could still be around as an alternate, we'll see. From TV indoors to outdoors (Tingler did an outdoor MLBNetwork interview) to photos, the brown of the cap in no way looks black and looks distinctly brown. I'm hoping to be at the reveal next Saturday and I can't wait to see the full set.

Interesting that the chair behind the cap is blue and yellow... As that’s never been one of their color schemes.

Though that SD does look more like the outgoing one.
