Stupid Mike Dee But yeah probably just a reverse color version of that logo on the chairs. They undoubtedly got a lot of extra chairs in 2016 for the ASG. FiddySicks
That whole season showed just what an absolute cluster:censored: the Padres front office has been. They redesigned just their home uniforms as a one season thing for the All Star game they were hosting, but apparently forgot that the NL was considered the road team, and couldn't even use that uniform in the actual All Star Game. And they used the old brown and gold look for the HRD and BP uniforms, to boot. They then reverted back to their regular blue and white look nobody (but bosrs1) liked the following season! There is no amount of mental gymnastics anyone could do to make me believe there was any actual logic to that thought process. Everyone already thought the Padres were run by a bunch of dopes and they represented that visually in their branding package that season more than anyone ever has. It's a miracle these people know to breathe for themselves let alone made the conscious decision to finally change back to the look everyone had been wanting for years anyway. Gothamite
What’s funny about this one is that the lighting conditions were the same, it was just the cameras used. Now consider how the same color can appear different inside and out, under bright sunlight or artificial lighting, and things get even more complicated. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! This sounds like an idea for a new thread around here. Same jersey/cap/helmet/uniform looking different... "Right uniform, wrong lighting"? To be fair MLB mandates the BP uni used during the Derby day. So that wasn’t the FO’s choice. I doubt they’d have gone with that had they been the final deciders. But I agree, they moved to the quite popular and attractive blue and yellow look on the home uni and cap in 2016, developed a very attractive away uni they used only during the ASG... and then inexplicably stayed with the bland blue and grey away uni during the season. And even I didn’t like that they then switched to the drab blue and white the next season. No one wanted that. Hell a return to the 2015 blue and sand would have made more sense. I mean to the benefit of those on this site and elsewhere that like brown though, had they stayed with the 2016 look I doubt 2020 would be rolling out brown. Though that SD does look more like the outgoing one. The chair behind is a navy chair with a sand colored SD stitched on it from the 04-11 set. They'be been in the Petco Park Auditorium where they hold these events for years.

When they went from those great ASG year uniforms to the navy only I was out, couldn't handle the continued idiocy of the management. Haven't followed them since. Now I feel I can come back since they are once again becoming the San Diego Padres. Design Hovie Studios

Gothamite
Does look good. fmedges
After looking at the asg navy and gold set again, I wish they went that route with a Padres script on the front instead of the interlocking sd instead of the brown.

I just wanted them to pick an identity regardless of what the color scheme was. I'm happy they finally chose to go with brown and I think it's the right move, but I wouldn't have hated if they'd adopted the blue/yellow look because at least that would've been something. This, however, is nothing. It's as absent a brand as I've ever seen a Big 4 sports team wear. It's like if air were a sports uniform. I can't for the life of me understand why a team would choose to forego having an identity. The road uniforms were a little better because of the uniqueness of the bowtie wordmark and the alternates were a little better just because they were a color and they allowed the unique piping to be seen, but still. Lifeless snooze of an identity that I can't imagine helped anybody get excited about Padres baseball.

Lifeless snooze of an identity that I can't imagine helped anybody get excited about Padres baseball. Can’t argue with that. And that it came after what was their best looking uni (the 2016) of the Petco era made it all the more egregious. They’d been blanding out the blue/sand for a couple of years with the 2011 changes and then again in 2012. Going to the 2017 after that wouldn’t have been so jarring. But to do it after the 2016’s and then pour salt in the wound the next season by wearing the infinitely better 1991 home uni multiple times in 2018... The 2017 weren’t just bland, they were almost purposely presented as such. The tin foil hat types would say that was the point of the 2017’s... but that’s probably giving the Padres FO way too much credit.
