Assuming it  has anything to do with the new word mark. The old compadres word mark had no relation other than coloring with the team word mark.

There are also pictures of it around Petco (but with a bigger P and S) so if it's not the real wordmark, that means the Padres have essentially come up with two. Plus, this version works with the rumors from the focus groups that the Padres weren't going to change the font.

Having said that, they did change the font and for the better. Just making everything proportional (look at the old S and notice the thickness of the horizontal lines versus the vertical lines) makes this a substantial upgrade.

What is Petco Park.ttf?

It's a nickname I gave the lettering font that's been in use since 2004.

Unpopular opinion: I hope they bring back the display font for numerals. Wilson Varsity is fine, but it's another piece of what made the 2017-'19 set so dull.

I mean the Bow tie is the only part of that font that’s been in use since ‘04. The Shampoo font was the prevailing one until 2015. And if you consider the SD part of that font that’s been changed as of last week.

Well, if you look at the similarity of the letterforms in the bowtie and the other wordmarks (as well as the '04-'11 numbers), you'd see that it's very much the same font. The shampoo script was just on the home and alternate uniforms. Also, given the semi-serifs, it's a modified version of the '04 font. Think of it as PetcoParkNova.ttf.

people in the focus groups were told not to pay attention to the font because it was still in progress.

Seat Colors is a very touchy subject with this crowd...might have to put it in the category about talking about native american mascots LOL

Try reading the thread next time *shakes head*

A lot of these people on this site have never been to San Diego much less to Petco Park to know that they built the stadium tying in the uniforms at the time Blue and Sand into the design.  And no this is not an excuse to say they should not use brown and yellow.  I love the brown and yellow but being someone that has been to Petco it is blatantly obvious on how they tied the construction colors into the uniforms at the time.  Time will tell once the seats have been bleached by the California sun into a weird blue that sticks out even more against the brown than navy on a day when people don't show up to the park.

That's not bad

PetcoParkNova.ttf is looking sharp! The design team somehow managed to salvage the font by modifying it, to the point where it looks good in brown/yellow! The old PetcoPark.ttf and the shampoo script looked awful in brown/yellow (despite the concept section's best efforts).

Wow look at those teams that use green seats despite green not being part of their colour scheme.

I guess the brown and gold Padres playing in a stadium with blue seats will be fine!

It is because green is a neutral seat color that a lot of teams implemented in the 90's for the retro park era.  Even the White Sox ditched their royal blue seats and walls for dark green to what they thought would "add character" to their park.

To be fair, the Pirates (who wear black and yellow) play in PNC Park which features blue seats and it works. I think the Padres should use PNC Park as a model on how to pull off a stadium with blue seats for a team that wears a non-blue primary color. Keep the seats blue but re-paint any exposed concrete that is currently blue either white, beige, or cover it with the same sandstone that covers the exterior of Petco Park. That would work very well IMO.

For how many years did I say "you can't just paint-bucket the 2004 design elements into brown and gold, they were designed for the ocean colors" in concept threads? The Padres really made an ass of me!

The blue seats at Comiskey didn't make sense on three fronts: the most obvious one is that that's the Cubs' color and you don't do that on the south side, it's also the Dodgers' color and you know how all these old New Yorkers are about pretending they bought the Brooklyn Dodgers (see also: Sternberg's Rays, O'Malley's Padres) and New York is not Chicago, and it also made Comiskey look uncomfortably similar to Yankee Stadium, Sox fans being no fans of the Yankees and again New York is not Chicago.

I think the seats should either be grey or that lime green they were at Old Comiskey. I'm sick to death of forest green in ballparks. The Nats are a red/white/blue team in a modern stadium. Why is there any forest green there?
