There was no way the NCAA was going to touch that one.

"Sure, you faced racism.  But you didn't face enough racism.  Waiver denied."

NCAA needs to figure something out with this transfer rule because handing out waivers seemingly at random isn't the best solution.

Just eliminate the rule.  Only five NCAA sports have the student sit a year: FBS Football, Ice Hockey, Baseball, and Men's and Women's Basketball.

Tate Martell's still waiting? I think if Patterson at Michigan can be allowed to play due to coaching changes Martell should too. Granted, Mississippi also faced bowl bans, but if the new coach doesn't want you why should you be forced to sit? With the rumor that he wanted to leave after Meyer was suspended last year, I have a feeling that Day was not going to play him unless he had too.

Patterson argued he was lied to about the severity of what Ole Miss was facing, so there is some difference. I think Tathan is using Meyer's suspension, which seems like a strange case to make.

University of Nebraska Football Player Maurice Washington Faces ‘Revenge Porn,' Child Porn Charges Over Video of Bay Area Teen

Quote

Washington, who dated the victim during his freshman year at The King’s Academy High School in Sunnyvale, is being charged under the “Revenge Porn” law because he’s accused of sending the video to inflict emotional damage on the victim. Because the victim was 15 when the video was recorded, he’s also being charged with distribution of child pornography, a felony.

“I tried so hard to forget it, and then to have someone just throw it back in my face like that and taunt me with it was just so evil,” Taylor, the victim, told NBC Bay Area on the condition we not use her last name. “Maybe that’s the wrong word to use, but I felt like it was evil, like why would you ever want somebody to feel that pain that I felt that day?”

Pretty scummy.  For Nebraska's part, the article says "the University was made aware of the allegations against Washington sometime last fall, but he was allowed to play through the entire season."  It has been updated to include Nebraska's statement on the matter stating they only knew California officials were interested in talking to Washington, but not about what and that there was no followup.

The Football Rules Committee has made its recommendations. All of which would make NCAA games even longer.

Quote

The committee, chaired by Stanford coach David Shaw, proposed a progressive penalty for those student-athletes who receive a second targeting foul in the same season. In addition to being disqualified from that game, the player would be suspended for the team’s next contest.

The second adjustment to the targeting rule deals with the instant replay review. Instant replay officials will be directed to examine all aspects of the play and confirm the foul when all elements of targeting are present. If any element of targeting cannot be confirmed, then the replay official will overturn the targeting foul. There will not be an option for letting the call on the field stand during a targeting review.

Kickoffs

The committee conducted a robust examination of the kickoff play, including the fair-catch change made in 2018. Approximately 12 percent of all kickoff plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision were touchbacks as a result of the fair-catch rule. Data showed that overall injuries on kickoffs declined during the 2018 season.

In an effort to continue this positive momentum, the committee voted to eliminate the two-man wedge formation on all kickoffs. The group will continue to review all aspects of the kickoff play and will consider future adjustments, if needed, in the coming seasons.

Overtime

The committee proposed a tweak to the overtime rules. If a game reaches a fifth overtime, teams would run alternating 2-point plays, instead of starting another drive at the opponent’s 25-yard line. This recommendation is being made to limit the number of plays from scrimmage and to bring the game to a conclusion.

The committee also is proposing a two-minute rest period after the second and fourth overtimes. The rules for the first four overtimes would remain unchanged.

OT is the only thing I like about college football.  Even though I get the comparison to the shootout in hockey, I like the alternating 2-point play concept.

An article yesterday said it would start after 2 OTs. 5 makes more sense.

Florida vs. Miami, originally scheduled for Orlando's Camping World Stadium for August 31 has been approved to move up to Week 0 on August 24.

And yes, there are thousands of people who now have to change their plane and hotel reservations due to this change.

Both schools have had conversations with primary air carriers asking that they provide relief for fans who need to change their plans. Florida Citrus Sports is also in contact with the Orlando tourism and lodging community and will enlist their support to accommodate travel revisions prompted by the change in game date.

Arizona@Hawaii is the only other FBS game scheduled that Saturday.

Glad to seed them finally make a decision. Having a backup leave probably made it easier to grant.

ESPN posted a college football field of 64 that was laughable because it used their FPI index which has a lot of bias.

That bracket was an absolute joke. I mean, I'm a huge Nebraska fan, but they went 4-8, how the hell does that get a 9 seed while West Virginia went 8-4 and could only get the forth 16 seed? Anything for clicks I guess

WVU is in for a medicore season at best.

1-Lost QB Will Grier, WR David Stiils, and WR Gary Jennings on the offensive side and Big XII Defensive PoY in David Long Jr. on the defense.  Inexperienced and often injured LB corps.

2-Team is moving from a 3-3-5 to a 3-4.

3-The 2019 schedule is pretty tough and 2020-22 are even worse.

Three recently retired PAC-12 football officials write a letter to Larry Scott about the office meddling in games.

If a paywall prohibits you from the Mercury News, here is an excerpt from footballscoop.com

Pac-12 has become a dumpster fire when in comes to the major revenue sports football/men's basketball. That article in The Oregonian was an eye opener.

Barry Alvarez at it again, and apparently he really didn't like his three years on the CFP committee.

Quote

I was never satisfied with (the BCS) and thought four (teams) really helped college football,” Alvarez said. “I thought that would be it. But when our league is left out of the Playoff three years in a row, I’m not happy about that. I don’t think we have followed the criteria set by the commissioners in naming those four teams.

“There’s a way you could go to eight teams very easily, starting a week early with a bye with the top 4 seeds. Any team would have a chance to win. I think it will expand, I just don’t know when.”

They have a Q&A on Periscope

He also spoke to The Athletic about the Playoff.

Quote

“There’s a window I think a year from now where they can make changes. They left that available. It was initially I think an eight-year contract, but there’s an opening when they can make changes, so that’s available.”

And it looks like LSU and AD Joe Alleva are parting ways.
